meh, I'm forcing myself using dark pencils >_> but I still feel rather uneasy with everything darker than 2B T_Tbtw, this is a headshot I drew yesterday night... I felt like I was neglecting Thadras... not to mention that he's resenting the fact that people now seems to like Sywyn more than him

I'm sooo afraid of dark colours when sketching >_< I always think I am pushing myself to make it dark, only to look at it again and realize I'm not even near gray yet

I love the way you made him in contrast, personally I think you're drawing excellent even when using darker pencils, you should actually practice with them more

Really lovely, I like the contrasts you made very much! A lot of artists stay with pale colors because you start working from white and always work to black and people are too careful.
I think it's a great practice to improve contrast :3 and with a subject like Thadras... mmmmmm *_* all the better.

I don't know why, but I'm always too "careful" when talking about frown and facial expression, unless I have a reference image to look at... maybe I should study the matter a little Γ¨_Γ¨...

Just one thing I wanted to comment - he has a gorgeous frown, but maybe you could add a few lines on his forehead to accentuate the frown? You can highlight a few of the folded parts as well. It's only a suggestion but I think it might improve the intensity of his glare.

I like the shading job, it's nice. I think introducing the different hardness of pencil is a good thing. It makes the image bold. The value shifts add a nice sense of depth.

Could use some work on the (slit-pupilled?) eyes, but I like the way you have gone there.

yeah, it's true about the eyes (yes, kinda slit-pupilled, but it's more like an irregular cut than a slit shaped pupil like cat's or snake's one..), I didn't even put a little highlight like I'm used to >_>...
