A dear (Oompa Loompa sized) friend pointed out that I had not updated my TFP Ratchet cosplay on here in awhile. I promised her I would correct this tonight. On a side note I hadn't noticed how the pink foam I used for the door handles on the chest makes it look like I gave the costume nipples. This amuses me.*edit* After looking at this picture I realize that I put the forearms on upside down. Way to go Duck, way to go, not like you BUILT THE DAMN THING! Sigh. Between the forearms, the nipples, and pink hubcaps, Ratchet is gonna kill me.

Any advice for new cosplayers who wanna try making there costumes?
As sad as it sounds im a sucker for that new steeljaw and have no clue what materials i would need. Any advice or links would be helpful. If it's not to much of a bother of course.

Might i ask what type of foam you are using for the body! it looks like the perfect type of stuff i would possibly like to use for Knockout.

Sure thing, foam tiles that one might use on the floor of a children's room or a work space. You can also use camping mats, anti fatigue mats, those foam mats you can use to line the inside of shelves. K-Mart had a bunch of them for sale under the brand name Tectra multi-color interlocking soft flooring.

Hired someone to make the 3D image of Ratchet, transferred to Pepakura 2D, printed it out on 110 lb cardstock, assembled, transferred pieces to foam (cept for the helmet which got fiberglassed), annnnnnnd painted

I would KILL to go to BotCon but being in the military it's kinda tricky. Last year I couldn't go cause of a deployment. Am also stationed in Hawaii so not like I can just roadtrip it ya know?

Ooooo, what I wouldn't give to be in Hawaii... I've always wanted to take a volcano tour of the Big Island.
But, yeah, being there definitely would limit one's ability to attend conventions.
While I've no military affiliation, my occupation (teacher/museum curator) also makes it difficult to attend such events. Come heck-or-high-water, I'm still going to try and attend BotCon, assuming it's somewhere reasonably close. If I can't, then there is always A-kon (I live near Dallas).
I've been researching techniques for Transformers cosplay as I want to make a G1 Powerglide costume for my husband (so's I can dress up as Astoria, lol), and the way that your costume is coming together is simply fabulous. I love the seamless transitions between the pieces. Is that the product of your card stock/resin/fiberglass method used for the helm?
Sorry if I'm being overly inquisitive, but yours is one of the best TF cosplays I've seen in a while.

No worries, I learned from others, no reason not to pass it on eh? Pepakura/paper craft made this possible. Yes, I used that method on the helmet. It was surprisingly easy up until the sanding part. Could also just be due to that unique inwards crest of his; the edges are a bitch.

So? At first I didn't have anywhere to wear this sucker to but LO AND BEHOLD! A con popped up on my front door. I have till October 20th to get it completed. Anyways, try an make one, everyone needs a hobby. And there is a certain amount of accomplishment/pride when you get to wear the finished product.

Hrmm, interesting character to cosplay. The FoC one might be easier as it is mostly edge pieces vs G1 who has actual helicopter parts, rounded parts, and of course those blades sticking out. But it all depends on which one you dig and what kind of access to building materials you have.

That too-And FoC means I wouldn't have to deal with 'how to move/get through doors/sit down ect. with Helicopter blades sticking out my back-Because knowing me I'd end up having them stupidly huge.
