Description
I guess watching Buffy on DVD in my whole freetime has its side-effects on me. And I longed to make a classical vampire picture with a little twist. I think it turned out well. The vampire girl was inspired by Spike with a lot of GlamRock touch. I wanted to have a subtle erotic feeling mixed with a bit of more or less hidden sadness. My products used here:

Nice work but it feels like there's no shadows in the scene.

Well I tried to make a kind of night scene so to strong shadows would have been wrong (there are still some of them out of artistic reason).

The one on the right fascinates me. It's not everyday that you see 3D art depicting transgendered people well, and it's a wonderful thing to finally have. Well deserved DD, both for the beauty of the art and because it integrated that theme so subtly and beautifully into the pic.
The vampire theme is also really well used in it and makes the whole composition even more sexy.
If you don't mind me asking, is the character on the right meant to be transgendered as I thought, or a hermaphrodite? (Either way it rocks.)

Thank you for the nice comment.
Actually I created the picture with two girls but seeing your interpretation is also an interesting idea.

Oh... Sorry, I was convinced it was a male-to-female transgendered person because the lower abdomen and hip area are those of a man. (The hip structure between men are women are very different, because women have hips shaped to give birth and support the weight of the baby during gestation before that. The character on the right has a man's bones/hips and navel area, so I thought it was why.)
It's still cool as a picture with two girls. Rock on with the great art!

No need to be sorry. I must admit to like what you describe as a "male hip" very much, to my mind it is very sensual and sexy. I also like when the borders between genders are a bit unclear. I love to use what I really like from both body shapes. My male characters f.e. have always a VERY feminine look as well (long lashes, small waist etc.).
Thank you and I hope I will!

I totally understand what you mean about using what you like best from both body shapes, and I agree with the method. After all, art is all about how we perceive and express such things, so that's the best way to go, I think.
As for the differences between the male or female hip, the bone structure is actually completely different, which is how you can tell. Here's an example: [link] 201/Skeletal/selected_bones/pelvices_male_female_lbd.jpg (DA is breaking the link, so you might have to copy-paste it in two parts with the smiley too to see.)
Female hips are more rounded and wide, while males have it more jutted vertically... not sure if I explained well, but you can see in the image I linked that it's completely different. (Sorry I only had a side pic example, it would have been more obvious from the front.)

I hope so, even if not all people seems to be open minded enough and often mistook my androgyn looks simple as what they call "nancy boys"...
Ahh, I see. I have ordered a book called "anatomy for artists" last week, and I hope it will arrive soon for further study. Your link is very helpful. Interesting to see this little detail. Are these models natural sized? The male hip looks so much larger then the females. I am currently working on a male body and it would be nice to take care of such details.

Sorry for asking, but what makes you think the character's transgendered OR a hermaphrodite? I only see breasts and a feminine face and clothes Or am I missing something?

roccaco In reply to Ilenora [2009-09-27 18:49:34 +0000 UTC]
It was the hips and navel area.
The bone structure is that of a man (males and females have pretty different bone structure in that area), so I thought it was either a male-to-female transgendered person or a hermaphrodite.

Ilenora In reply to roccaco [2009-09-27 23:01:23 +0000 UTC]
Oh, hehe, I thought it may have something to do with that.
Just as a little information as to why I think the character look that way - I can't be sure because I'm not the artist, but I've worked with these particular 3D models (they are pre-made models from DAZ3D that you can buy) and I'm pretty sure that's just a woman with a little too much of the muscular and toning morphs
Still, whether it was accidental or not, I find it pretty intriguing that you noticed it and it's quite a unique take on the image! You're the first person I've seen who would notice a different bone structure between males and females in an image.

roccaco In reply to Ilenora [2009-09-28 23:30:55 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, I wondered if it was the 3D model that had the male hip too. Companies making those sometimes mix things up, after all, we're all human.
It's cool either way, the results are very beautiful, and I really agree with the artists' idea that one's favorite details of both genders produce the best results.
As for the differences between the male or female hip, the bone structure is actually completely different, which is how you can tell whether a set of hips is from a female or a male. Hehe, yeah. It's not really the model's fault, or the company that made it - it's actually a great replica of the female body, but certain morphs combined with particular lighting and poses can make them look weird
Thanks for that, and don't worry, you explained it pretty well
