Eudora hadn't been to see the new Nova tree yet.

For a little bit, she'd avoided it, in fact. With the revelations about her parents she didn't really want to think about the spite attack and plague that had managed to shape her whole life even though she hadn't come out of her egg yet when it all happened. Then she got so busy with the cottage and grounds that she never really got around to it.

There had been a lot of fuss over the merging of Wynsiph and Last Notch. Many had been suspicious and frightened-- what would this mean for the town? Eudora figured even if they were being a bit mercenary, it seemed like they had made some genuine good will gestures, and the Nova seedling made up for any number of sins. She couldn't help but feel a bit bad for the mayor and that important lady from Last Notch, she hoped they'd come to get along and at least like each other. Would they be expected to have eggs together? Maybe they wouldn't even live in the same house. Who knew? But it seemed sad, like the prince in one of her stories who wanted to marry his childhood sweetheart and ended up being pressed to wed someone from a neighboring kingdom. Of course, in the story, the prince had run away and ended up killing an army of Kindrin and it turned out the false fiance was a witch in disguise, but real life didn't work that way. In her mind, Eudora pretended that they had become best friends since the wedding and would soon fall in love for real, and beyond that she tried not to think of it since it seemed very mean to doom two 'grew into a loveless relationship for her own benefit and that of the town.

Now that things were dying down a bit, it would be easier to actually get close to the growing tree. Eudora decided it was time to face her past and greet the new growth.

She and Sundrop approached the town square. There was only one other at the base of the little tree. A colorful 'gro who seemed wounded (the battle with the deelagun? she wondered) was sitting in quiet contemplation, meditation, or prayer of some kind, using a small magical flame to focus their thoughts. From the corner of her eye she noticed another curious citizen stepping forward to pay respects.

She knelt before the twig of magical crystal and felt the life flowing out from it. Sundrop, sensing the magic, seemed curious too, and put his paws up on the stonework, stretching forward to sniff the air. A feeling of warmth and hope washed over Eudora, gazing at the tiny Nova tree. She reached out, gently cupping her claws over it. She hadn't begun to learn magic yet, but she did her best to focus energy and love into the seedling and she hoped that it understood. It felt warm, and a little tingly.

Gratefulness and joy filled her heart. With time, this would be as large and powerful as the old Nova tree. She glanced up at the fire-using wyngro, thinking how it seemed so many had lost so much to the terrible tragedies of the deelagun. But like the tree, here they all were, continuing to live, building something new.

It didn't fill the hole in her heart, not entirely. But it helped.

Nova is very beautiful!

I love Lime and I'm sorry I only did the back of her head-- I sketched her in about four different places trying to fit a proper bust in and I just couldn't make it work. Next time I'll get her cutieface in!
