Ah I see
Have you ever used a gravity fed?
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought Eclipse comes in both gravity and siphon fed. I was just interested in why you chose the siphon fed (both are good, it's really just about preferences).
I see you posted a new WIP picture as well!
They're looking really good! You lovin' your new airbrush yet?

No, I haven't used a gravity fed. Yes, the Eclipse does come in both of those and side fed too. I got the siphon fed because I already had a few siphon bottles and I change my colors frequently, having to empty and clean out a gravity fed brush every time I switched colors would be a real pain.
Thank you very much, I'm working on their hair and the flowers for her dress.
Yes, the new airbrush is very nice. It's taking some time to get used to it and how to use it with Sculpey but that's to be expected.

Yeah, that makes sense
I chose the gravity fed, but always wonder "what if".
Have to say, sometimes I feel that I'd like a bigger cup, but the detail I'm able to get out of it is worth it, I think. After all, I do paint pretty small areas.
I'm hoping to make a comparison of an airbrushing job and normal paint, but for now I'm taking a break for a week or so.

Well, you could have gotten the siphon fed and then get the .35mm needle and nozzle for the smaller details. That's what I did and it was cheaper too. Especially since I used the store's regularly issued 40% off coupon.

thanks for tutorial
can I make a sculpture without wire? Or it always necessary to use wire? I just wanted to make a clay sculpture (being inspired by your works) but now I understand that don't know the fundamental things ... Can you give some advices for inspired beginner?))))

Yes, you can make a sculpture without wire! For chibis this works quite nicely! If you want to do something more complicated, for example a standing human, you need to use wire, it will help you out a lot.
Plus Im a cheapskate, so I bulk my sculptures with wire and foil so I dont have to waste that much clay....

Super Sculpey
Recently Ive started mixing in a bit of Sculpey Firm, its a bit harder to mold but but it will stop the strands of hair from flopping around where theres no wire support.

SgtMilenko In reply to DemiWolfe [2011-06-19 11:23:16 +0000 UTC]
I use a normal, 2 mm wire for support, a thinner (I think 1mm) wire to wrap around the foil to make the sculpey better stick to it, and a thick, 3mm - 4mm wire for third support.
You dont have to go over the top though, you can just use 2mm wire for everything and wrap it around itself for support.

Thanks!
My husband and I have been wanting to try out clay sculpture, but wanted to use wire for support, and weren't sure what kind to use.
Thank you much!

Thats nice to hear, make sure to throw me a link if you do.
And if you need anything, please ask, Id be glad to help.
I might actually make a tutorial of my next piece, it involves a lot of wires and structuring, so stay tuned!

Another very useful tutorial. How long does the process for sculpting the head alone take?

SgtMilenko In reply to stirfryarcade [2011-02-17 00:04:22 +0000 UTC]
Well, have to say I did pussy out a bit, so it took me longer than it should have. Considering that I usually work on other areas at the same time (for example, armor goes on before hair), it might have taken me about... 5 hours in total? But god do I distract myself in the process,- please, PLEASE dont get into the habit of watching something at the same time, its absolute murder.

Five hours doesn't sound too bad, considering how important it is getting the head right as well as taking multitasking into account.
I think I've already established a bad habit... since I'm living in a college dorm, I'm usually in the kitchen when working on larger projects or painting. As such, there are lots of people or other distractions around, usually a movie in the background or visiting friends.
Background noise keeps me sane while I sculpt, but I can't deny that it's distracting. So I think I just set myself up for certain destruction. ._.

Then we are on the same boat, my friend.
Watching something while crafting cannot be a good thing, but it seems it has become a habit.

Most definitely. The diversion in the background helps keep me sane, especially during long projects, but the distractions always make the process longer. It's like a catch-22...

Heh, I usually have something on (like online tv) while scultping, and when I reach a really critical part I demand absolute silence and not to be disturbed,- all while the tv is still on.

Me too. It's kind of strange how that works... Demanding silence while listening to a movie. I guess it's just the calming effect of the movie.
