Description There's a background version to this... but I suck at backgrounds... so, yeah.  I had all these snake references in my storage that I used to construct the biology for the Shrieks in my story RESIST, and after frustration over another image boiled over, I started this guy for practice.  I used every reference on my hard-drive, and did as many textures as possible (the background included cloth, wood, and carpet/fur).  Though I can't say it's my best work, it's pretty good considering I started it three months ago, stopped, and then picked it back up again when I couldn't (and continue to fail to) complete another project.  Textures on here include:  flesh, saliva/liquid, scale, ceramic (underbelly has a similar smoothness), and stone.

On an added note, let's have a little scavenger hunt, shall we.  I used al 5 reference images of snakes in my picture library, specifically pythons, can you guess which ones?  (just name the parts )  Oh, and there's one or two more easter eggs I shoved in there for fun, so feel free to try and find them (mostly physics related).  If you can't guess one of them, I have no faith in you guys

My favorite part was definitely the tail, because it was the least trouble and nearly came out perfect, while my least favorite were the arms...  there were originally hands and claws... but hands... HANDS *pouts in frustration*.  Was damn proud of those claws too.  Oh well, at least I got to also practice that 3-D effect (WOULD HAVE BEEN SO EPIC IF I JUST FIGURED OUT THEM DAMN HANDS).  Plus, made some improvements to some other work(s) still in my art cache, so double-win!

CRITIQUES ARE ALWAYS WELCOME, ESPECIALLY SINCE THIS IS A STUDY!!!

Time:  Approx 20 hours (spread over 3 months off-and-on)

Program:  Photoshop CS2

Brushes:  No custom brushes were used (it was a texture study, duh)

Notes:  Background removed due to lack of quality (may add later)

This looks really awesome, those scales look remarkably well done! I really quite like the way the mouth/head of the creature is the one part coming out of the frame like that, like it's lunging towards the viewer; very cool!

I'm experimenting with that 3-D effect quite a bit.  Hopefully I figure out how to master it by the end of the year

You might be seeing the effect in the near future on a few things I've got hidden away from everyone

There is so much painstaking detail in there, and I love the depth!

XD

The one ref photo I used was exactly that.  Thank God I had it too, or I don't think I would have been able to work in all the things from every photo I was looking at.
