Description
TUMBLR | INSTAGRAMI did a bunch of photo studies of random animals with limited colour palettes on Tumblr last night and they turned out really nice so I decided to post them here! They were a great exercise and a good way to get back on track with digital painting. I might do more of these at some point when I have time but now I must focus on other things.
The animals: moose, doberman, sloth bear, fossa, orca, Saimaa ringed seal, platypus.
I hope you like them!

Oh man- I missed seeing the bear, seal, and platypus last night but they're all so amazing.
I love the quality of brushwork and the texture in all of them.
The moose is my favorite though- the composition, animal choice, and color palette is just perfect and beautiful.

All of the creatures that you drew are incredibly dangerous

Woah that Dobermann looks so good. And I love the light/dark lighting on the Moose's antlers, gives it an almost mystic atmosphere of a foggy morning or something.
May I ask how you picked the colours for the pallet and applied those colours to the drawings?

Thank you very much!
All the color palettes and animals were given to be at random by my followers on Tumblr! I used FallenZephyr's 100 color palettes from which people could pick one and suggest an animal to go with it. All I did was choose a reference picture for each animal.

I love that orca! The lighting effects are so lifelike.
And the color and lighting on the platypus make it look like it's in an aquarium, or zoo or something. You know, when you're looking at them through the windows on the tank, and the water appears kinda neon blue or green.

Thank you!
Yeah, I was given the animal and palette at random so I was surprised how much the platypus turned out to look like a photo you've taken from behind a glass in a zoo haha.

Thank you! It helps a lot when you only focus on the big areas and forms first. Then you can get the basic form together and you can add a couple of details and you have all the necessary information in the piece so it looks "complete" in a sense. If that makes sense. :')

Yep, it makes sense.
I'm a pretty slow drawer myself, so maybe I need to try that out more. I get caught up in the details too much at first, I think. XP

Okay good! But yeah, it's really helpful to focus on the big forms, shapes and flows first. After you learn how to put those down it's pretty easy to put everything else in correct places.
