COMMISSIONS TUMBLR | INSTAGRAM | TWITTER | KO-FI | ETSY | REDBUBBLE | INPRNTI'm once again participating the MythicMay challenge organized by Audre Schutte! This year I will just be doing creature designs in the way that feels most natural to me, drawing inspiration from creatures in real life.
Merrow are the mer-people of Ireland. The females look like pale-skinned dark-eyed women from the waist up with the rest of their body being fish. The males are green-skinned, with a sharp red nose and tiny, beady eyes. They can shapeshift into land animals through the use of a hat with a magical red feather. If the hat is stolen, they are unable to return to the water. They are typically peaceful towards people, often inter-marrying with mankind.
So basically merfolk. I wanted to pick a fish that can be met near Ireland and picked thornback ray because rays are the coolest. Kinda went wild with the colours but it was fun. I guess any creature with vague resemblance to the human figure will do for a lonely and frustrated fisherman.
