Description
This is the result of getting an overdose of oriental themed movies. Afew days ago I watched Mulan, the next day I wathced Kung Fu Panda and two days later I watched Kung Fu Panda 2. I had to let that out in somehow.I don't know why I picked Lugia and Ho-Oh for this one. Well, I do like it, though. I've never really drawn anything that resembled the old Japanese art style this much. I have to say I really enjoyed painting this and I think I might do something similar in the future. :>

Thank you! Okami's art, as well as this painting, is very much influenced by old Japanese art. I have to say Okami was a big inspiration for me, too. :>

This looks very nice. I like the Japanese style, and after reading a somewhat disturbing piece of fanfiction last night, I also like how it looks like they're going to fight each other (although that could just be my imagination).

Well, could be. Their expressions sure are a little aggressive. Perhaps that's just because both are trying to guard and protect their territories - the one guards the sky, the other guards the sea.

Okami actually inspired me a bit, too. I absolutely love the art in Okami, it's always so inspiring. And I listened to the soundtrack while I painted this.

Yeah, I actually already painted another picture in Japanese style. You can check it out if you want. :> Also, I have at least three more ideas that I want to do soon.
And yes, I know the game and I love it. Actually, I haven't played it myself but I've seen a friend of mine play it several times and I'm love to play it myself some day. The art and graphics are just beautiful and the OST is very inspiring, too. :>

I like the Hokusai-style waves. You really managed to create a coherent piece in this one, which is very hard to do when working with such an iconic style. Every line is completely "in style", just like it has to be. Small remark perhaps is that Ho-Oh's pose is a bit too much in perspective for this style. It's subtle, but as far as I've seen traditional Japanese art normally depicts figures slightly more tilted towards sideview.

I've actually seen a few pictures with more perspective. Usually the figures are depictues from the sideview or such, you're right with that.

They must be rare. I've tried to look for links but I haven't found any. I remember seeing some Japanese printing works in an exhibition a couple of years ago but I can't remember their or the artists' names. :/ If I happen to find any examples I'll link them to you.
