24 hours after getting new hardware and software, shadina's back in business!
anyway, a couple of people here asked me how i added (faked) markings to horses in my manipulations, so here it goes: the whole secret revealed!
the pics are numbered, so there's no need to say that it reads from top to bottom and left to right.
it covers the markings' part in detail, but not the whole cutting-off, tail reconstruction and glitches fixing.
oh, forgot to mention: on step 3 i've also fixed the hooves.
i chose to add a blanket appaloosa, two ermined socks, two normal ones, and a star with a thin stripe. i tried to cover the most common markings in the most commonly found body parts, but of course the techniques can be used to any markings.
one thing i forgot to cover was how to make the eyes blue - but using the same strategies i'm sure you'll get there. if not, feel free to ask, but please, try to do some research before requesting something - maybe someone already did it.
comments and critiques very welcome!!!!!

Would this work for turning a chestnut horse into a leopard appaloosa?

most certainly, yes! just make sure you carefully select a much bigger area to make white (leaving enough spots).

well, the method i've used in this tut to add the markings to the body will work the same with hooves.
if you select the parts you want to make darker and burn those, then invert the selection and dodge around, you'll get a hoof that's slightly lighter than the original, with darker stripes. with a bit of blurring/smudging, it'll look fine.
hope it helps.

Hey there! We're a brand new horse club looking to assemble the best equine tutorials on Deviantart into one place. Since we are so new, our gallery is essentially empty, and we were wondering if you would be interested in adding this tutorial to our gallery? Full credit and a link to the original will be provided. yeah! XD my advice is to start with small areas, like socks and stars, and only after a while move on to larger spots.
good luck!
