I used Apophysis7x with retouching in photoshop.

I started out with a diamond and added some swirls then used the transformations so it would all line up correctly. I also used transformations to the main swirl to give it the appearance of being flat. Plus some blurring. Then, in photoshop, modified the brightness and added some light to the center point.
