History: Used to live in a forest (Random side note - notice how many random forests there is in the anime?) with his parents and young sister Alice. One day the two went out to get some lunch, where Roly (Then Steve) was attacked by a large Arcanine. Alice ran off to get their parents to help, but while she was away, Seren managed to drag Marcus' Arcanine away from him. She instantly thought he was a little cutey and took him back to their camp, much to Matt's and Munchlax's (Marcus' Snorlax before he evolved, fyi) annoyance at this new young male.
[In case you're interested in what happened with his family after they got back and found he wasn't there, they'd lost hope in finding him again...I'll write about it one day, I swear]
Eventually, Seren decides to capture the lil' fluffy cutey, giving him the nickname 'Roly Poly', due to his pudgy roundness, which really annoyed him.
By the time they got to the next town, Roly was really annoyed with everyone mocking him about his new name, calling him 'soft' and the like. One night, in a moment of blind rage and cut his wrists open on Seren's penknife then slowly realised what he just did and screamed in pain.
Luckily, Ashly had woken up before then due to having a crazy obsession with blood. He was rushed to the PokéCentre, where they also ran some tests over him, finding out he was short sighted. So, to add with the dorky nickname, scars on his wrists, he had to start wearing thick-rimmed glasses if he wanted to keep seeing.
As he got older, Seren managed to convince him that evolving was the way forwards for him to get taken seriously. And, it sort of worked.
Only sort of. Matt and Snorlax couldn't help still making fun of him. But that's just them all over.
