Yipp.
I finally tried my hand at a true cel shade. None to shabby it's got a background and everything XD

Every year I go through a complete Wizardmon/Gatomon phase where all I want to do is hear about, talk about, and think about these two. While it is usually constrained to early Oct. (in lue of Anime Banzai being around the corner) it struck early this year and I found myself once again gobbling up any and all new fanart, images and info.

This piece was inspired by numerous writings I perused in the past detailing Gatomons years with Myotismon prior to saving Wizardmon. Having watched the Japanese version, it is safe to say those were hard times for her, as there are numerous shots of her being beat by Myotismons whip.

Those of you who have done your research know that Gatomon is a Champion level Digimon. This is unique in that she is the only Digimon in the kids group that stays in this form as opposed to her Rookie form most the time. The official consensus is that 'she had to grow strong without the help of her Digital partner, thus she has the power sufficient to support her Champion form at all times'.

Well, we can't be strong all the time, and I imagine she was forced back into her Rookie form from time to time amidst her beatings.
During those darker days I"m sure she got used to laying on the cold stones of the castle floor, as she waited for the strength to stand again.
Someone as proud and powerful as Gatomon wouldn't be inclined to accept anyone's help. Unless of course, that someone never asked.

We can't be strong all the time, and that is what I like about Gatomons rookie form Salamon. It looks so tender and kind, an accurate portrayal of her more genuine self. Something I know Wizardmon saw in her regardless of form.

I imagine much of their relationship was spent with her turning him away, and him caring for her in subtle ways. Kindness is what their friendship embodies to me. It was what drew them together afterall.
