Description

History:

The Cold War of the Old Republic Era dragged on following the conclusion of the Treaty of Coruscant, danced around by both the Galactic Republic and the Reconstituted Sith Empire in the form of small skirmishes and conflicts across the galaxy. A Sith Lord known as Darth Vihum, a Sith Pureblood of considerable power, grew concerned that his fellow Sith were growing complacent in the absence of true war. He believed his fellow Sith were prioritizing the development of isolated power; power he believed was wasting away in the personal castle and stronghold on far flung planets. In his belief, Darth Vihum began to pursue a solution for this self-believed problem.

In this belief, he sought to develop an overwhelming, imposing, awe-inspiring fortress that the Sith could bring into battle with them; personal strongholds that could move throughout the galaxy. These fortresses were to be places that would serve not only as mobile strongholds and weapons, but also as a place where Sith could live, gather artifacts, and marshal their loyal follows and train their apprentices. His work and research would lead to the earliest designs for what would eventually become known as Landing Castles. Darth Vihum presented his early designs to allies and friends within Taerab Starship Manufacturing. It wasn't long before these designs were presented directly to top engineers and designers who would work closely with Darth Vihum. This partnership bore various improvements as the designs were reworked to become more viable for practical implementation on a wide scale.

At the conclusion of this partnership, Darth Vihum ordered the construction of the first prototypes. This would eventually lead to the creation of the final version. Thus, the Assiduous-class Landing Castle was born...

Special Facilities

Each Assiduous-class Landing Castle was outfitted with various special facilities that made the vessel truly monstrous when it came to waging war. These special facilities were divided into those meant to service the Sith, facilities purpose-integrated for the expansion of military operations, and those made for resource acquisition. Whether it was to replenish lost forces, or to reinforce existing formations to expand battle operations, a Sith Lord could build whole armies and raise the Sith and generals required to lead them from these facilities combined.

Across the exterior of a Landing Castle were numerous compartments hidden away. Within each was a small sensor drone. These drones would be deployed when a Landing Castle engaged its drop sequence, helping guide the Landing Castle safely to the ground. They would spread all throughout the orbital zone the castle planned on dropping into and provide live feeds and seamless updates on ground activity.

Sith Facilities:

These facilities were made to service the Sith that lived and fought aboard the Landing Castle. These facilities were made to not only help the Sith that already served aboard a Landing Castle, but to help a Sith Lord take in Force Sensitives and turn them into Sith during a prolonged war. They could be taken in from a local population, be taught the basic tenets of being Sith, allow them to create their own lightsaber, and train them in the use of the Force and their lightsaber.

    • Lightsaber and Force Use Training Centers

    • Sith Libraries

    • Lightsaber Forge

    • Synthetic Kyber Crystal Forge

Operation's Expansion Facilities:

These facilities existed so that a Sith Lord could turn even people of a planet they were invading into soldiers loyal to them. Through these facilities, a Sith Lord could grow an army from any planet they were sieging; they could seize them, indoctrinate them, train them, and arm and armor them before finally sending them to fight against their own people. All aboard their Landing Castle.

Additionally, while in space, a Landing Castle could also deploy its colossal landing spikes in a special formation, temporarily converting the Landing Castle into a small shipyard capable of constructing capital ships up to the size of a Terminus-class Destroyer. Though the Landing Castle would be exceptionally vulnerable while in this formation.

    • Training Facilities (Army and Command / Officer)

    • Weapon, Armor, and Equipment Forges

    • Vehicle and Droid Foundries

Resource Acquisition Facilities:

Across a Landing Castle's vast exterior were numerous small compartments hidden away. Within each of these was a powerful mining drone that could be deployed from the bridge. These drones were purpose built to harvest asteroids and even parts of moons while in space. When on a planet's surface, these drones would seek out and dig for materials. When deployed, these drones were meant to supply their Landing Castle with a near limitless flow of resources for the production of new arms, armor, and equipment, vehicles, droids, and other war material.

Following the drop sequence of a Landing Castle, these drones would also clean up the drop zone, making it suitable to disgorge its vast complement of soldiers, vehicles, and droids on the planetary surface while also gathering immense amounts of material.

Drop Sequence:

The drop sequence of Landing Castle is quite a sight to behold. When the master of a Landing Castle wants to deploy onto the ground, they don't simply land, they perform a controlled drop from the upper orbit of a planet. At the initiation of this sequence, its colossal landing spikes will extend downward close to a half mile longer than normal and every hatch will be sealed while every extension will retract back into place and lock. Additional power will be routed to the shields on the bottom of the Landing Castle, and onboard Sith will be gathered to offer the strength of the Force in reinforcing the hull and shields to help stabilize the Landing Castle from the incoming shock of their landing.

When a Landing Castle finally breaks the atmosphere of their target planet, they will begin their deceleration processes. These processes are initiated by reversing engine power, and then expanded as the Sith use their abilities in the Force to forcibly slow the vessel through the use of their telekinesis. The purpose of this deceleration was not only to protect the vessel from damage, but also to contain the damage done to the planet's surface while maximizing the subsequent shockwave to produce immense amounts of damage without endangering allied forces. This shockwave would distort the earth and throw up debris for miles around. In this way, a Landing Castle served to double as a blunt-force weapon meant to secure the landing zone and weaken any nearby planetary defense systems.

Drop Sequence.

Once the Landing Castle had finished touching down, the central section would be slowly lowered, coming down in between the landing spikes, leaving only part of the upper decks and the bridge exposed as it hunkered down. During this sequence, several of its shield generators would be diverted to projectors on top of the Landing Castle, projecting a shield in a large area around the vessel. However, none of its weapon's systems would have power diverted from them, allowing them to utilize their Turbolaser batteries while planet side. Though it would remain partially sealed after completing its drop, a Landing Castle would open up all of its hangar bays and begin to deploy troops and vehicles via shuttles and dropships while the mining drones cleaned up the debris. After this was complete, it would then open up its hatches and extension, allowing for a seamless movement of troops and war materials between the ground and the Landing Castle. Once hunkered down and deploying its armies, a single Landing Castle was fully capable of holding down an entire planet-wide battlefield alone.

While vessels as a large as the Assiduous-class Landing Castle would normally be unable to land on the surface of a planet and return to space afterwards, Darth Vihum took a great deal of time to research solutions to this very complicated problem. The solution he eventually came to involved using the Force. His solution would employ 10 Force users utilizing 10 modified terminals installed on the bridge of the Landing Castle within the central holotable. These onboard Sith, or otherwise any Force user, would use these terminals to tap into the Landing Castle, binding themselves to it as the force enveloped it. From here, they would empower the ship and it's engines. While the thrust of the engines was greatly enhanced, the Force users themselves would also be using the Force to forcibly lift the ship, dragging up into the planet's atmosphere, and back into orbit.

NOTE: The art itself comes from a concept of a First Order Probe Droid. The idea of the Landing Castle came from an anime called Aldnoah.Zero, which I highly recommend.
