Description                                               Chapter Ten Unseen Discretions

Another four months passed without incident; Caleb had began to get to know Demeter better and found that they had a good fit as friends; it seemed she had only come to Scindo four months ago from Jersey(which surprised him because she didn't seem like she had an accent, then again he didn't either), because of a transfer in schools; she was going to Amadeus University to finish out her final year before residency.  This added to the things they had in common as she seemed to have an apartment in one of the many housing projects of the Den instead of opting to stay in student housing which was in the uppercrust of Scindo's society.

It was also beginning to turn cold in town the shopping centers and stores were starting to stock up for Halloween and the inevitable rush for candy, on one of these clear autumn days Caleb decided instead of riding in his car or on his bike that he'd take the more natural route and walk.

He liked the Den in autumn, it had a more natural tone to it with a lot more leaves on the ground then he could ever remember in Pleasantville as he walked along he hummed some soft metal tune about a lost love and thought about Ophelia and what they would do for all hallows eve; he was sure that he would be throwing a party as he usually did though what would they wear.  He stepped inside the tattoo parlor and took his place at the sketching table; sure there had been improvements to the system of tattooing over the years, and he wouldn't be remiss to use a scanner, but he preferred drawing to any of the photo manipulation tools they had at their disposal, and most of his customers enjoyed the hand drawings anyway.

It was just about noon when she walked in, he didn't even notice her at first until she placed her purse right on top of the desk, he looked up into the amber eyes of Demeter for the first time that day and something took him aback; all he could do was stare for a second while the other artists swarmed to swoop her up and into their chair.

She told them "Sorry boys I'm here for this artist"

That seemed to snap him out of it as he reached for a new piece of paper, "What can do for you, sweets?"

She smiled having grown accustomed to that name and pulled up a stool to sit on, "How 'bout a pair of Angel wings"

"Sure color or grayscale?"

"Well seeing as how I want them black I think I'll take them in gray scale"
He chuckled at this as he started to sketch, it didn't really surprise him that she had tattoos why only last week he had seen the kanji on her neck; no what surprised him was that she wanted him to ink her; Sage used him as an artist but had a different inker, Kayta his friend from the club did the same nobody seemed to trust him with needles but for some reason she did, and she barely knew him!  As he finished he showed her the wings which now resembled those of a fallen angels with some of the feathers falling off of them, she smiled

"Exactly what I wanted"

"Well then", he looked back to make sure that he had a chair opened and then prepped the guns and area for doing the work as she disrobed and he was hit with just how prestine her skin was he almost spilt one of the inkcaps he was setting up to do the work with he heard John giggle

"Shut up old man"

"Thought it was only Ophelia you had eyes for?' he heard from the other room as the buzz of the gun started, he had an appointment, but he could see clearly what he was doing all of which seemed to entertain him.

Sinful Design was the only Tattoo parlor in Scindo, which isn't a surprise because the people of Pleasant wouldn't be caught dead with ink; well at least known ink.  Caleb had seen a number of people from Pleasant walk through the doors to get a black light tattoo, which he usually scoffed at and laughed.  He knew the hypocrisy of what was supposed to be the perfect uptown communities; after all hypocrisy was the only thing you could expect from human nature.  A man could say he is the most perfect being in existence and yet be the most rotten dirty scoundrel behind closed doors.

As Caleb started inking the outline of the tattoo and Demeter seemed content she started to talk

"So I have no idea what I'm going to do for Halloween" she said almost offhand, "I mean I want to dress up but what's the difference between what I would wear on that day and what I would wear on a daily basis?"

"Well you could go as a dominatrix Fae"

Demeter contentedly laughed at this; Caleb had grown fond of her over the past few months. It pleased him to see her and talk to her.  She let him talk about whatever he saw fit; she didn't expect anything of him and in truth that was all he was looking for in the end.  Someone to understand

But isn't that what you have in Ophelia, came the voice in his head, the voice that was from his dreams; he tried to ignore it tried to push it further out of his head than he thought possible and yet it seemed to come back asking the same thing over and over again.

Caleb had finished the outline just fine and asked, "Do you want to continue or do you want to call it a day and come back in a few weeks to finish the shading?"

"I think I can carry on, I quiet enjoy the sensation" Demeter almost purred that last sentence out and Caleb's mouth parched and he reached for a drink that wasn't there, he got up and walked over to the drink machine taking his gloves off and paying for a drink he then came back disinfected and started again.

It took him three hours to finish all the detail and set everything straight, he admired his handiwork as he dressed the tattoo sealing it in with an intensive care lotion he let her see it in the mirrior behind the stations and she let out a squeal of joy that caused almost everyone to say "Did she just orgasm?"

Demeter chuckled, "No but you guys probably wish I did!"

Caleb couldn't help but laugh as he was cleaning up his work station.  He was happier than he had been in months because she was happy with what he did.  Demeter turned to him after paying him and asked "So do you want to go out to lunch so we can discuss plans for this weekend?"

"Uh sure just let me finish up it is almost lunch time after all"

Caleb cleaned his station and grabbed his coat, he looked at John who just gave him a nod and left.

She asked, "So where's your bike?"

"Well it was so nice out that I decided to walk what's the harm in it?"

"This is very true I did the same thing"

"So let me get this straight you walked all the way from the hospital to here to see me?"

"Yeah does that surprise you?"

"Kinda"

"Why?"

"Well not a lot of people do that, I mean sure there's Sage and once in a blue moon I'll see Angela but really nobody comes by my work"
Caleb couldn't help but smile at this as they rounded the corner to a café he often frequented.  He was starting to question himself as he walked in, he was flying high on a kite and not because of Ophelia but because of Demeter.

As they walked along to the restaurant of her choice, she choose a sushi place and they ate their fill Ophelia had called about halfway through to ask him if she could go out to Nightshade by herself or at least to the fetish shop to pick up some surprises for him; he didn't see a problem with this and told her that he was hanging out with Demeter anyway.

They started talking about their love life and both got around to the exes department and it didn't surprise him that they had a lot in common in that department, he ordered a bottle of Sake and she discussed her ex pets while they both took shots from it. They left arm in arm (after about three bottles of Sake) singing some Celt drinking song and praising Odin, which Caleb hadn't done in a long time

He was leaning against a brick wall when she fell into his arms with a whoops-a-daisy expression

"You my friend are in danger of drink driving"

"No I'm not….I am noooot" she said flipping her hair, "can you keep a secret?"

"Sure, I'm a dragon don't you know?"

"No, I didn't you wanna show me how good a dragon you are?"

"What do you mean"

Before he had known it they were at her doorstep, she had opened the door and pulled him in, "the secret I was trying to tell you was….I like you caleb' and she enveloped him in a hot passionate kiss.

Actually, I think the idea of a blacklight tattoo is really cool. And I like this development - maybe he'll ditch the manipulative slut.

... Something I've been wondering - what is the POINT of punishing a masochist with pain?
