The Sputnik-Class Escort Frigate was introduced in 2164, after the day of first contact with the Garaleth Inquisition, the Sputnik-Class Frigate intended to escort large cargo convoys through shipping and trade lanes, colonial ships and even military vessels of various shapes and sizes.

Using similar developments made by the Apollo-Class Missile Destroyer, however minimising the size and incorporating small gravity generators for the Crew Quarters and the Crew Quarters only. The Sputnik-Class was developed and built en masse by Spacedock Industrial Shipyards in the Burgess' Star system above the planet Australis.

As the Sputnik-Class first debuted in 2164 the first battle against the Garaleth Inquisition on the 1st of November, known as The Battle for Burgess's Star, taking place in high Australis orbit the battle continued for an hour until the Terran United Federation emerged victorious after the Sputnik-Class Escort Frigate the TSS: Comrade discovered (by accident) that the Garaleth's biggest ships have an exposed reactor at the back and can be destabilised by a rail-gun shot. The Captain of the TSS: Comrade was then promoted to Fleet Admiral of a small task force group.

The Sputnik-Class Escort Frigate quickly became famous and about 20 were sent in a fleet with the TSS: Apollo, TSS: Yamato, TSS: Venture and the TSS: Vanguard on their journey to find the Terran United Federation and the rest of the United Galactic Coalition a salvation before the Garaleth decide to engage in an all out war.
