You once pleaded with me to follow you through one of the Doors of Perception, but I didn't want to take that trip. No, I had my happy and successful future all mapped out, and it was supposed to put me on a different plane than the one you were flying high on.
Yet you were the one who landed laughing. My trip ended in a crash. You are still seemingly young and wild and free. The world can remain your oyster, with you as its pearl.
I am trapped here, where I have found myself encircled by walls which themselves are surrounded by trenches and barbed wire. This is a prison of my own making, a hellish price I pay for my deceit, my errors, my never-rectified human mistakes. The system chained me, tried me, convicted me and won't ever again allow me to know freedom.
I rarely dream now, but when I do it is of you and that endless trip you're still on. You are still a diamond, Lucy - a diamond in the sky.

That's a very powerful little piece of writing!
I especially enjoyed the play with words in the first paragraph. Depending on how you read them, the whole work reads differently. Especially how I perceive "Lucy" changes quite a bit. I think describing her as a diamond was a great word choice since a diamond is precious, shiny and pretty, but also a very durable raw material. Plus they only look pretty when they were skillfully cut into the right shape....

Thank you. Truthfully, this piece arose from my fifteen minutes of thoughts on some challenges I've been facing recently. They are of my own creation, and have been allowed to fester over time. A random and immediate mix of sights and sounds and thoughts formed this piece, which somehow still reads well to me several days later.

A lot of us are conditioned to believe that we don't have times for 'frivolous' things like meditation, but you're right, you do have time. www.justaminute.org has one minute meditations. Everyone has one minute.

Fortunately, I have long known of the benefits of meditation. I've just rarely practiced it for one reason or another. I've lacked self-discipline for a few years. I'm making time for meditation now!
