Don't mind the title, I'm being sentimental.Angsting about art tonight. Well, slightly. I shouldn't look at other people's art, I feel unworthy >_<; There's so much I have to improve on.. I forget how much of it is stylistic and how much is actual skill. I just.. rargh.
So, angst = sap, in my book. Bwarh.
If you're wondering why Chrono, erm, isn't looking so great, wait for volume 8 of the manga. Makes more sense, then. Ahem.

I thought I cried enough at the ending in the manga.
Then I had to see the anime.
*bawls* I just broke down when I saw their 'sitting at the bench' scene. T_T They look so peaceful. I perfer the manga ending because at least there's hope! >__<
Nice drawing by the way, you captured the scene really well. I always hoped they could show the 'frontal' view of them kissing in that scene XD must have ...more...fluff....

As I'm about 30 seconds from faving this picture, I'll leave a comment along with it. These two have to be my favorite coupling in all of anime/manga history - those that I know of and those that I don't (being a little ignorant here, but ah well).
As much as I love this picture as a whole, I really think that Rosette is the one that brings the true emotion to the piece - as such a strong character, it's wonderfully different to see her in such a soft setting (read as: love the fluff). That said, I agree with Silvermare - the simplistic coloring fits very well. I'd really like to see more of your traditional work, though... coloring outside of photoshop, as I love that as well. Beautiful job, yet again. ^^

No, it's ah... a very long and complicated story as to why that happens. It's explained in volumes 7 and 8 of the manga, and doesn't happen in the anime.

Well, no, it's not that... The anime and the manga are their own stories, unique to the other. Though some themes and characters and places remain the same, so many things are different that I really think it's better to consider them separate stories. I prefer the manga to the anime, definitely, but that doesn't necessarily make the anime bad-- just not as good as the manga. But if you try to think of them as one and the same, you'll get very, very confused.

I agree! but some of the characters in the manga seem to have more of an edge on their personality...like Chrono never got to breaking point in the anime (unlike volume 5 in the manga) and Rosette actually became 'brainwashed'!?
Anyway I still enjoyed the anime since I suppose it promoted people to read the actualy manga~
The weird thing is in volume 8 in the manga...Chrono's eyes go from red to yellow? O.o"

Yeah, we picked up volume 8 last week. I'm not happy about the way they ended the series. I'm a fan of happy endings - I have enough angst in my real life...

Well, compared to the 'ending' in the serial run in Dragon Age, the ending is quite happy. All things considered, Moriyama wrapped up the story exceptionally well o_o I actually didn't cry when I read the epilogue (unlike the four times I read the ending in Dragon Age T__T; )

It is not good to doubt yourself. While there certainly is a time and place for self criticism, getting too heavy with it can be fatal. Anime art is always stylistic, and that is largely the point of it. So, go ahead and let yourself play with the various styles. You clearly have the skill, as the number of people who watch and favorite your work should attest. I can relate, though. I don't do anime art, generally, I do equines. My horses are always very stylized and in impossible colors, which is a bit off, because the main trend in equine art is to try for photorealism. I, too, have often wondered if I do that for the sake of creative expression, or to eclipse the fact that I am really not that good at drawing horses.
I really like that you have used the watercolor tool again for this piece. It softens it, gives it more of the sentimental look that you were trying for. Cel painting, as I think you called it, would again be too harsh for this piece.
How long has it been since you have played with watercolor anime art using traditional materials? I browsed through some of Yoshitaka Amano's art yesterday, and thought of the piece that you did of Joshua. Granted, you should not browse his art if you are still down on yourself because he is the master of watercolor anime art and even brings industry pros down on themselves, but he takes his art in a direction that it seems you are leaning towards. It transcends mere anime character design. It is truly fine art.
I look forward to seeing more from you in all styles and media, but I especially like the softer trend.
