I definitely believe that Sans worked with Gaster and I also think there is is some viable proof that they are both skeletons, most likely family. So yeah, with all his science knowledge and the in-game implications of him knowing about the true lab and resets, in my mind he was a scientist. And a hard working one at that. He says plainly in the game that he prefers that people think he's lazy even though it's not true at all. I think his initial lazy bones attitude is just him being so tired from long nights at the lab that he just falls asleep all the time, but since he works pretty much in secret he just looks always lazy. And after giving up on being a scientist after Gaster fell, he works just as hard in other ways, but still seems lazy to everyone because he's so tired. I mean he works 3 jobs, is the "judge" of the underground, and even follows and surveys Frisk throughout the underground. I'd be tired too.

That, or yeah he's just lazy

But there you go, that's some of my theory I guess.

No problem the same as me the only thing why I stop talking is that English is not my mother language, in Hungarian I have always something to say. Well I think pretty much the same Gaster is probably a father and he took Sans to work, time passed and than he become the assistant of him than Gaster passed away and then were all the resets started and sans begun to lose hope. Than was the point when he turned to lazybones.   I think if he would have something to work for like no more resets He would work hard for everything he want. This is my theory well I guess my favorite one.  (sorry for the language mistakes if you find)

Hey, your English is actually really spot on. If you didn't tell me it was your second language I probably would have never known. Always feel free to speak, I won't judge  

But yeah, Sans is just such an interesting character. I think the mysteries of his past are one of those most captivating things to think about in Undertale. I never thought that a skeleton would end up being one of my favorite characters of all time
