Description Only thing keeping him from being a real hero is that he doesn't wear a funny costume and has no extraordinary super powers.

But than again ... kicking the US government, US army and pentagon in the ass, calling them bastards, declaring an act of anti-authoritarian anarchism and walk away without a single scratch ... that would look unreal even for a superman movie .. and yet he did it without costume or superpowers

It's a privilege to live in the time of Julian Assange! Surely .. he is a true inspiration for every intelligent and clear headed person!

I agree that pursuit of idea is of far greater importance than any particular person involved in that pursuit.

But nevertheless... one should give credit where credit is due

He is an influence. I am starting my career as journalist, and I really defend that the news should only serve freedom. I really like this guy, he is just passionating, all his work and the way he turned upside down the concept of "cause journalism".

Excellent image, and an even more excellent message. Mr. Assange, assuming he is not simply a figure-head for the CIA or some other wing of the intelligence dynamo, is a true hero, and a force for good in our time.

I wish him all the best in his amazing project.

I find it quite hard to imagine Assange as a CIA figure-head (for whatever that means).

You can read something about what really goes behind the 'news' in the world .. and that judge for yourself

Don't know if he's out of the woods yet, so-to-speak. That'll require keeping his ego in-check. Creepy image, though -- like he's FROM a compute. Nice job.

What interests me about WikiLeaks, is how the US government keeps saying that american soldiers are endangered by the revealed information... if they care about their safety, why do they send them abroad to war? As far as I'm informed, when you send young men armed with guns into a country to kill people, you can bet your pants someone will try to kill them back... I don't know, it sounds logical to me...
If they worry about the consequences of revealed information, then they shouldn't be doing whatever they do so those reports need to be written...

you're spot on!

Leaking does not endanger people... what does is sending them to occupy other countries on a false premises!

yeh, i know, but still, there are things the world should know as well as things that tthe world shouldnt know. you may have no intentions to go and do something with that information, that doesnt say somebody else wont as well... you know what i mean?

the government hides too much, but wikileaks leaked too much.

and no, once on the net , forever on the net, duh

OK.

I have a simple question for you...

Who is to decide what YOU should and what YOU shouldn't know?

How can YOU possibly benefit from NOT knowing something?

Do you think that you're too weak, too stupid or too afraid to handle the truth?

The very Al-Quaida that you lament about was once upon a time a top CIA secret project. So the very problem you're concerned about was created by secrecy, and yet you argue that it could be solved by further keeping of secrets!?

I think not... keeping more secrets will generate more problems. We have to become transparent society, and sooner the better! Now is as good time as ever

nobody, and the fact that i know it is not important, im not gonna blow someone up or wtvr, but if youre able to know it, youre enemy is able to know it as well, and be sure he'll use it against you. if you think he won't, youre just naive or stupid

i know al quaida was a cia project. but i dont care and dont need to know who informed the us government where this or that guy was hidden, or how they could attack the taliban best, but i do want to know about violations or stuff like that done by the us army. not all secrets are for the world to be seen, for the safety of the person mentioned in that article. think about the life the person is trying to live, and his safety that is destroyed due to wikileaks putting him on the net! (yeah yeah america shouldnt be there, yet they are!)

sorry... your argument comes down to making more stupid things (keeping secrets) to protect stupid things already in place.

In another terms... you're trying to cure alcoholic by pouring him another drink. And that's simply idiotic!

CREAPx In reply to shamantrixx [2010-08-24 18:54:30 +0000 UTC]

so you would let these people mentioned in the articles just be hunted down by al quaida? which makes it obviously possible that they bring suicide bombers to the western world... to preserve the safety of that person he shouldnt be named.

if you go to the cops when youve witnessed a crime, you probably dont want to be named as well... the crime must be told, but not the people who try to solve it
that would be idiotic

shamantrixx In reply to CREAPx [2010-08-25 00:23:17 +0000 UTC]

You are switching stances... you're comparing witnessing a crime and collaboration with occupying forces. Nowhere in history do we honor nor protect collaborators. Those who participate in the crime of occupation deserve no special protection. They are not solving the crime (as you try to argue), they simply add to it by collaborating with war criminals.

Since when do we keep secrets to protect criminal collaborators?

CREAPx In reply to shamantrixx [2010-08-26 15:44:54 +0000 UTC]

an afghani collaborating with the usa, who supposed to be taliban or whatever... i bet usa has dozens, but we dont really know, and we shouldnt as well. cause they do it for their own good, whatever that may be, and collaborating with usa doesnt mean theyre fans of bush or obama or so ehh, they want the war to leave their place asap, and they help whoever they think is best for them, offcourse that doesnt solve anything. but that doesnt mean they should be killed. and if they live out here now, that means danger to us as well, cause if al-quaida finds and kills them, you just might be collateral damage, and how would you like that?

a better example: yesterday on our news there was sth about wikileaks, namely that the whole process of a big rapist here is on it. entirely!
that is disrespectful to the victims and shouldnt be made public, judges and advocates didnt sign an act of secrecy for fun ehh... wheres the good in that?
that you know what happened? how and when and where? what profit do you have on that?

I guess you're entitled to your point of view even when your view is ignoring the facts.

Equally I'm entitled to stick to my arguments and consider this debate to be over.

Thank you for your time, respect and patience.

Best regards!

well this one have set the procedures in place that will outlive him easily. By assassinating him they will only make him even more of a hero... just like with good old Che who still gets printed on posters and T-shirts

We Are All WikiLeaks, and they can't assassinate us all... for we are many... and united many becomes one, and one becomes many!
