Description So!

I just finished playing Fallout New Vegas. So I thought I would pay tribute to one of my favorite game series.

I'm not so sure about the new Fallouts. Don't get me wrong, they were fun to play, for the most part. But they didnt feel quite right to me. Bethesda just has a very different way of making RPGs. and from playing 3, it didn't seem they quite "got" the Fallout universe. It just lacked that fallout flair. it was a fun action RPG with familiar names and themes from the previous games, but little else. And from a visual standpoint I found a little too much emphasis on the cold-war, city-of-the-future retro, and not enough Mad Max, road warrior apocalyptica.

that being said, I am glad it introduced a whole new generation to the Fallout name. and gave the opportunity back to the original Black Isle crew to have another crack at the franchise. And I must say, New Vegas was muuuuch more Fallout, albeit using the same engine as 3. The characters, places, story, and hell, just the fact that it had anything to do with the other games was a plus. And in true Black Isle/Obsidian fashion, it was buggy as all hell. lol. But I enjoyed it anyway.

I guess there is just no more room in the market for those isometric, turn-based RPGs anymore (Van Buren looked SO sweet). Oh well, I try not to wear my nostalgia goggles too often. lol.

Anyhoo. For those who arn't too up on the Fallout Universe, or can't guess; These are my main characters from the 5
fallout games.

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

From Left to Right/Back to Front:

Fallout Tactics: The reluctant Raider turned Brotherhood of Steel General. He was Grungy, unruly, and never really fit for a military life style but he was handy with a sniper rifle, and really knew how to pull together a battle harden crew and get the job done.

Fallout 1: The Vault Dweller was good at everything he tried, and he knew it. The only problem was, most of his experience was in computer simulation. After traveling into the wastes, he took quite a blow to his ego, but the struggle was for the better, and his talents were pivotal saving the wasteland, and beginning the changes that would remake the west.

Fallout New Vegas: The courier had little love for most people. She just liked to keep her head down, do her job, and be left well enough alone. Unfortunately, she was thrown into the mix of big events. and it so happens her sharp eyes, light feet, and deadly skills were a commodity for many interested parties.

Fallout 3: Tough, confident, and often overbearing. The Lone Wanderer helped turn the tide for the Brotherhood against the remnants of the Enclave with a quick wit, strong arm, and her handy plasma rifle.

Fallout 2: The sure footed, fast handed, charismatic descendant of the Vault Dweller; The Chosen one was instrumental in setting the west down the path to revival, and all but exterminating the nefarious and powerful Enclave

:::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::

And there you have it. I've played the fallout games so many times, I have a sort of arching story that goes across all of the games. (I kinda tied the events of 3 in with New Vegas to make it fit) I always have fun personifying my RPG characters, and adding bits of personality and back story. Especially when it came to Fallout.

thanks

This is a really neat piece of Fallout fanart, I must say. I really like how you've given each of the player characters a unique look, and even shown a little of their personality. I've been meaning to replay all of the games (starting with 2), and I think I might end up doing this too.

I think my favorite of the bunch is the Lone Wanderer; she looks very charming, and the bright red scribe robe is quite vivid.

That was my favorite part about the fallout series. or just old school rpgs in general. they gave you great look at the personalities and unique aspects of all the characters while still leaving room for your imagination. I recommend giving them a play through. i still do, every once in a while. lol

thanks!

She cannot be The Lone Wanderer...The female Lone Wanderer does not have boobs that large and everyone knows lethal radiation turns everyone's breast side from either male and flat to female and manageable by the modifications made to Gamebryo. Also The Chosen One and The General are my favs.

Thats really great artwork.
Your Vault Dweller looks like Arcade with muscles^^

To say something about your opinion:
First: I didn't played the original Fallout games (yet) so I can't share the experience you had while playing them.
Fallout 3 takes place in a completly different area of the (former) USA. So its just natural that many things are different to the west coast. San Francisco was always a completly different city as Washington (in reality) and so it's in Fallout.
I have to say that I've prefered the world of Fallout 3 over Fallout New Vegas. Waaayyyy bigger and much emptier. The story also dragged me more into the game than in NV. But in NV the followers are more interesting. They've turned into real pals for me.

And something about your Lone Wanderers clothing:
Does she really wears that ingame (there mods for clothes like this)?

Hope you dont consider this comment as trolling or something.

you know what, i never thought of that. lol. I had been drawing him like that for years, but the resemblance is uncanny! and I strongly recommend you play the old school fallouts. It's definitely dated by today's standards (turn based, cant run diagonally (lawl), isometric view), but to date, fallout 2 is one of my favorite games. also, i will have to agree with you in that i wasnt a huge fan of the wild west thing in new vegas. But it was the npc writing that made me like nv more

PotatoOni In reply to Shardanic [2012-02-11 20:19:45 +0000 UTC]

Actually as far as I heard I'm more interested in fallout 2 than in 1. Mostly because it sounds way funnier (easter eggs without end and more options like slave trading and stuff) and I like to battle the Enclave. It's also an Savage-fights-high-tech-bad-boys story wich can be interesting. I'll probably buy it form somewhere. Yes, I know it's on steam but I'm the kind of person wich rather buys the disc version than just to download it.
Im glad I'm not the only one who loves most of the companions. The story characters sadly weren't that good in my opinion. I mean I would never follow Caesar because he doesn't make me think his way is good. But I've helped Ashur in Pitt because he seemed nicer then Werner. And since he's from the Brotherhood he had more chances to create a cure as Werner. The NCR is also not that motivating as well are Mr House and Benny. But the side quests were nice.
In conclusion I love the additional factions and characters but I'm bored about the main characters.

Really cool artwork. I've just finished the main storyline of Fallout 3, and am actually really interested in the first two Fallout games, about as much as New Vegas. Needless to say, my character is...well, he's obsessed with power armor, so he doesn't show his face often.

the writing, mostly. character interaction feels genuinely fallout. instead of trying to imitate fallout in 3. I wasn't too crazy about the wild west thing, but the rest of the game made up for it.

Well, myself, I do it because the Legion are evil fucks and not in a cool way, the Independent ending has Yes Man, not you, in control (and he's no longer forced to take orders from you, if you listen closely to what he says in that ending), and the Mr. House ending has you hand control of everything over to a decrepit businessman who is actually classified in the game's files as an "Abomination", like Centaurs and Deathclaws.

XD Yay! this picture is awesome for several reasons!
First great imagery: normally I'd be concerned why the guy from fallout 1 is so buff but...then again I suppose having like STR like 8 would do that
Second: I finally meet another person who actually played these games. I can find ppl who play FO2 occasionally but the first one? and tactics? rare as HELL
Third: another person who understands having a sharp tongue in FO2 opens SO MANY GODDAMN DOORS

ya, i always take a bit of characterization in my depictions of my characters. My vault dweller spent a lot of long hours in survival simulations during his time in the vault, so he was the natural choice to be thrown out to search for a water chip. lol.and I know how you feel. I only know two or three people who have ever played fo1 and even less for tactics. and anyone who knows anything about fo2 knows cha and speech rock that whole game!

Nice work man!!! You've covered a topic very close to my heart, and done it very proud!
I really dig your depictions of your characters, very well done.

Man I totally agree about the not enough Mad Max apocalyptica in Fallout 3, and the retro was well over done in my opinion. BUT I really did love the game..... though I still haven't finished it. I've hit the level cap yet again because I just can't stop wandering around exploring stuff! I have yet to play New Vegas. However I still whip out Tactics to play when I feel like having a bit of fun. I got a level editor for it and stuff so I dick around making maps to LAN with my mates. I haven't played Fallout 2 in ages!!! I may have to dig it out and have a run at it.

Anyways man, awesome artwork as usual!

Thanks, man. It's a rare moment when you meet someone else who has actually played tactics. so kudos to you, brother! and dont get me wrong, I liked fo3 just fine, it just didnt feel very fallouty. especially the writing...which was bethesda trying to sound like blackisles. It was functional..it was just missing that something special, ya know? I'm guess im just too much of an oldschool fallout fan

Yeah, can't say I know many people these days who've even heard of Tactics let alone played it.
I agree that 3 was kind of not totally there writing-wise, but I was just so glad to be back in the Fallout world, so it didn't bother me much.

Have you played New Vegas? If so, what is it like? I've not actaully gotten around to it myself.
