UF4Just a little prettiness for the day...
I learn from each image. This image I learned how to get a striped gradient on an Orbit Trap.

Hi There!
You have just earned yourself an O.D.D. feature ! congrats!
Today's theme was titled " FLOWER POWER! " - Flower & Plant Artwork
ODDS (oibyrd's daily deviations) are to honor the sometimes overlooked artists of dA that I personally think deserve some exposure (and ALSO, to show off people who I think are undeniably talented in their own genre of art, REGARDLESS of their #'s of fav's or pageviews. I like what I like and sometimes artwork isn't featured in the regular DDs because it's popular all on it's own It's a shame, but the admins are only trying to be fair! ). Please click the link below to see your work featured and to view other featured artists . If you prefer not to be a featured artist, just send me a note and I will remove you from the list. Cheers! xoxo Sandi oxo

Very well done, as usual. But how did you get the striped gradient? Would have thought that the image used the usual petal traps, but you did this all with orbit traps? Once again, you've given the rest of us something to shoot for.

sharkrey In reply to xraynet [2006-03-13 22:36:55 +0000 UTC]
The flowers are done with Orbit Traps(UF3) - (dmj.ucl. The stripes are a masked higher order trap (like 30 petals). I worked the base gradient and textures and then overlayed the mask. This make sense?

Well...if you've been messing with it for a while, you know the learning curve is a little steeper than it might first appear. Other than just continuing to play with the program, plus going through some tuts...the best "general" tip I can give would be to join the UF mailing list and make use of the mailing list databse. With the database, you can find artists whose work you like and then do a param search for that artist. If they havae submitted any params to the mailing list, you can download the params and study how they do things. Eeeeeeeeexcellent learning tool!
Yeah, I know...this didn't really help, lol....but it really does work if you pursue it.

Well, not sure about the "good as you" part, but that's what I've decided...to just continue to spend time with UF. Most of my heros have been using the program for years...so I'm thinking in another 7 or 8 years I'll be ok...
Tha's all we can do, no?...just keep poking along...

Wow...thanks! That, to me, is one of the goals as an artist...to make the piece intersting enough that the viewre enjoys spending some time just looking around in the piece.
You just made this piece worth the effort...

also the naturalistic appearance.

Ohhh this is very pretty! It has such a tropical feel to it, I bet if I zoomed out there would be a waterfall somewhere near lol. The flowers are gorgeous, but the best part for me is that gnarly vine, you have the texture just right and there are even leaves!!
