Description
Before the 35mm negative for BBC Alba's long-running Scottish flag ident (used for Gaelic-language programmes) started to deteriorate in 1977, to the point that the background was now blue/black by 1985, which led BBC Alba transferring the original negative to laserdisc (but the problems were still inherited from the deteriorating 35mm negative) in 1987 as the original animation cels went missing in 1975, making BBC Alba unable to digitally re-animate the logo using the original animation cels, the blue background was more vibrant. It was used only for BBC Alba's Gaelic-language programmes, as the globes were (until 1991) used only for English-language programmes on BBC Alba. If the last programme on BBC Alba is in Gaelic-language, then the Scottish flag ident would be used at closedown (with Flower of Scotland playing in the background), but if the last programme on BBC Alba is in the English-language, then the globes would be used at closedown instead (with God Save the Queen playing in the background). But due to angry complaints from Grampian Television about BBC Alba plagiarising Grampian's idents in 1988, on the 16th of February 1991, BBC Alba retired their Scottish flag ident, with it being played for the final time at closedown, and when BBC Alba started up at 9:00am, they started up with a whole new look, with them using the COW globe at all times, even at closedowns.
Like usual, it's still set in the What-if idea about a pre-2008 BBC Alba universe.
