Description Afterlife Part 2 Prompt! I went with a more concept-ish style which started out as a speedpaint and ended up a headache and a half... but anyway!

Rodrigo makes his way to chat up this chicka for info on the missing peeps. Let's see how he does...

A frigid reminder of winter clung to the early morning breeze routing through the streets of Lumiose City. The area boasted noticeably fewer people than previous mornings. Perhaps the wind had them ducking into shops, or staying indoors to work from home in pajamas and robes. Still, it was early for most besides those who had a specific reason to be out and about.
Extra warm blooded by nature, Rodrigo jogged along the sidewalks in his usual gym attire, unbothered by the chill. His breath came in even little puffs as he went along.

"Somewhere along here then? Where are you, love?" Rodrigo mumbled to himself, pausing at a crosswalk. A quick scan of the surrounding streets revealed his target rounding a corner on the opposite side. “Te encontre..”

Rodrigo picked up his pace to make the crosswalk. He stopped at the corner, feigning to be out of breath. His target, a young woman with an orange jacket walking several dog pokemon, halted near him. Straightening to crack his back, Rodrigo turned to her.

“Brisk, isn’t it? Dog walking must be quite the lucrative profession to have you out and about so early,” Rodrigo said with a friendly smile.

The young woman gave him a sideways glance, showing no real interest to engage in an actual conversation. “Not really. I just like dogs.”

Rodrigo studied the woman before him. About 5’6”, a few extra pounds, haircut and piercings which suggested she ran with an artistic crowd. Before he could open his mouth to speak again, the furfrou nudged his leg.

“Now, here is a handsome fellow.  What might your name be?” Rodrigo said more to the pup than the woman. He reached under the dog’s chin to give him a hearty scratch.

A hint of a smile shadowed the woman’s mouth. “Apuro. Means trouble. He’s actually mine.”

“Apuro… el es un buen perro.”

At that, the woman turned to Rodrigo. “So… I guess you didn’t need me to translate ‘Apuro’ for you.”

Rodrigo grinned, shaking his head. “My native tongue. It always reminds me fondly of home when I hear it. Thank you for that.” Stretching an arm across his chest, Rodrigo shifted his weight. “Speaking of which, this city is much larger than I am used to.”

“It has a great night life,” the woman said, her tone becoming a touch friendlier, “That’s why I moved here.” She reigned in one of the dogs which attempted to stray into the street.

“Yes, I have enjoyed the bars along the street near Hotel Bellamy. The Jubilee competition is what brought me here in the first place.”

At that, the woman turned away, a sour expression on her face. “A lot of people are in town for that.”

“Not your cup of tea then? Even with these odd rumors of people in connection with the tournament going missing?” Rodrigo asked, tilting his head.

“Not really.”

“Sounds like there’s more to that story,” Rodrigo baited.

“Yea, my dirtbag ex applied for the tournament before breaking up with me. Joke’s on her; she didn’t make it in and I haven’t seen her since.”

Rodrigo leaned in just a hair closer. “That bad, was it? Are you not concerned something untoward could have happened to her?”

“Not really.” She pulled her jacket tighter, shuddering into it.

“I see.” Rodrigo said in a vague tone, rolling his shoulders. If anything was obvious, it’s that she wasn’t about to elaborate on that topic. “Sounds as though you are better off without her. Now, you and Apuro can spend more quality time.”

The woman smiled genuinely, giving her dog a loving pat. “There is that.”

“Well, it was a joy speaking with you miss…” Rodrigo looked at the woman expectantly.

“Shiela.”

“Shiela. Lovely name. I’m Rodrigo. We may cross paths on my morning jog again. Until then, keep Apuro at your side and take care.” With a nod, Rodrigo headed in the opposite direction. Shiela’s eyes followed him, but she said nothing more.

I like this. Even without context it's a nice ambient sort of piece that's reminiscent of some of the earlier 20th century art.

I was definitely going for something way different than my usual style. Good to know I got it there!

Yeah! It was a pain, but good practice.

I expected nothing less from Rodrigo. I already knew he was going to use his smooth talk for this, but still, I'm impressed by how fast he can make someone talk, especially that his person of interest is someone who seems kind of closed off.

Not sure if I said this before, but I'm always a fan of literature pieces with local color added in them, which is why I always enjoy reading your literary works with Rodrigo in them~

Yeah! Rodrigo caught a lucky break with the language connection and the fact that her furfrou liked him. It would have been tricky to get her to open up even for him otherwise.
But thanks! I do enjoy adding a little culture into these. It's excellent writing practice on the natural flow of conversation, especially between two strangers.
