"A 'thank you' would have done just fine, you know," Verrin groaned as he rolled to the side, his concerned expression turning to one of pain in an instant.
"I'm supposed to thank you for hurting yourself again?" Iselvella got up on one knee and caught his arm before he could roll the whole way onto his injured back. "I've told you already:I don't want you taking wounds for me. I heal faster than you do--just let me have them."
The stubborn boy did not answer as she began to inspect the burns on his back and arms. She only noticed the way he was looking at her once she finally began to examine the bloody cuts on his face.
"What?"
"I know you're worried about me. Would it kill you to show it a little more?"
Iselvella rolled her eyes in reply and went back to checking his neck and chest for further injuries. The next time she glanced at Verrin's face, he was grinning at her.
"Voyd's shadow. What, Verrin?"
"You're just the most unromantic person I've ever met."
She raised an eyebrow at him, using the cold expression to hide her relief that he seemed to be uninjured enough to be teasing her again.
"Well, thank you for the compliment."
Verrin laughed and took his turn giving a half-amused eyeroll.
"You're welcome."

Do I have time to be drawing? ... umm... No, actually. I've just hit a wall in my productivity so I threw a few pencil sketches into Firealpaca and colored them instead of making myself supper. Sloppy as heck, but I do feel better after getting some drawing done. Soo... I'm going to go eat now and get back to work.
