Description
Another design focusing on drug use...Never really bought into the "ADD" theory of children because I never thought it was right to force a young child, filled with constant energy and creativity, to be silent and contained while in school or even at home. Parents now (not all), place their children on mood stabalizing drugs to feed some theory that children need to be leveled out, not realizing the damage that these mood drugs are doing internally. What I tried to depict in this piece is the abstract vision of a child's mind, screaming out for release, and the skull below is the death of their childhood years of being crazy, having fun, and most importantly being a child.

While I agree with you to a point that a child's creativity should never be shunted, some kids need those mood drugs to be happy. I know a ton of ADD and ADHD kids, and they just get confused, angry, fustrated and end up screaming or throwing things when they're not on thier meds. And they hurt themselves and people around them because tehy just feel fustrated. My brother is autistic, and he doesn't have a magic pill he can pop to loose his tension. And while the majority of the time he is happy, fustrated bouts of anger and hurt can leave him curled in ball sobbing. Trust me, while normal isn't something any of theese kids can ever achieve, they feel trapped in thier brain whithout pills to calm them down so they can communicate with the world around them.
And I also just wanted to say (yes, this is isn't just a rant against your ideas) that I absloutely love your art. It has that constant abstract feeling to it, and one day, I hope to fill my walls with art ike this. Your style is almost too realistic, you know? Anyway, digg your stuff, keep it up!

You can have any of my designs tattooed on you. My only requirement is that you send pictures of the finished work so I can post up here.

This is very powerful, but could you even argue further that all drugs take a part of our selves? While never being on anything for more then a week, beside morphine, when we saccrafice our selves to drugs and alcohol we are changing ourselves and denying the oppertunity for natural creativity. That art formed while under the influence isn't natural and should not recieve the same kind of praise or acknowledgement as its counter parts.
That being said, i have always wanted to try doing art while being under the influence of something so i can experience that and the difference in art and ideas.

I don't see anything wrong with "experimenting" with mind altering chemicals to see what result will come of it, but when it becomes your key to unlock creativity, it becomes a problem.

The younger people to me seem kind of out of it. The ones that are on all of those medications.

stupid fucking meds did exactly what you said, fortunately for me my creativity isnt dead.
nice drawing bro.
to me it kindof seems like the eye in the middle if the eye of authority, always watching the screaming souls to make sure they dont "mess up"

amazing; and i am truly impressed by the meanings that are always behind your works, as well. Kids today, (and not just kids, either) are way too drugged up...i mean, where is all the potential for creativity going to go once their minds are "under control"? I myself, was almost forced on medication...i fought it all the way, however, and won. Seriously, I have had enough experiences with numbness to know that is NOT something i want to live with.
It is better to feel pain than to feel nothing at all, no?
well done, once again--i think i can totally identify with this one. The need to be yourself just screaming to be heard. ^__^ awesome.

Woah...
I totally agree with your about the drug thing, but there are some kids that just can't be stopped (but the drugs usually don't do much anyway).

oh man GREAT work. This is to true. as a first hand recipient of Adderall Concerta Ritalin and one called Defficote or something i can say that any one who has "ADD" is being lied to. I lost a part of me with those drugs. the scar is a shrinking one but also lasting.
I love your work more and more all the time man. keep it up

gotta say i agree with you on ADD, problem is teachers and parents just arent willing to put forth the effort to create the right outlet for those kids to really excel naturally... SOME children i can see a need for medication, i mean theres always the point where it all goes wrong, but come on, we over-medicate for any reason nowadays... nice art piece

man, after reading a lot of your recent photo descriptions, you're really fucking intelligent. Not to mention one of the few artists who put meaning into their art anymore. I appluad you for superiority to many of the artists here on DA

All good artist are equally or better bullshitters lol. Thank you, I always hated the beatniks who put a boot on a chair and said it was art and then made up some story about how it represented the man standing on the little guy or some dumb babbling A lot of my artwork is direct responses to events in my life that have driven me to recreate those events in hopes others may connect to it the same way I did the first time. So if any of my pieces have touched you in any way, positive or negatively, pass it on to another who may find some connection as well. Again, thank you.

Wow.
It speaks to me.
It tells me to:
"Tell the parents to let the kids have a say in wether or not they do drugs!"

While I agree with your logic in the comment, I have to say I disagree slightly.
I go to a special education school, filled with kids with a variety of differences. Some of them like the central focus here have ADD/ADHD. While the drugs do take away from the creativity and the chance to be a kid, you gotta admit here that there have to be boundaries.
When day in and day out you sit through class with the same disruptions, those drugs look pretty attractive. I'm not suggesting it for 100% of the time, but I do believe there are times when they are necessary.

the concepts you put into your work really are stuff that shoul be payed more attention to rather than 'Angelina Jolie is adopting!'. Your artwork n this one is really amazing too.
My mum swears that I have ADD. Fortunately, she's one of the few who would never be willing to put me on meds O.o;;

Thank you for the kind words. I myself am on Adderall XR because I find myself always drifting in my medical classes. But once class is over, that is where the usage ends. I don't take it during the breaks from school because when I am on it, I am very jittery yet filled with nothing. But the effects it has on me doesn't mean it will do the same to you. Another point that should be made. You cannot expect one drug to "fix them all" when each and every one of us will react different depending on our biological make-up.

Your welcome. Medical Classes? Is that like doctoral studies? I'm really sorry. heh, but my mind is jittery even without meds.
I really agree when you say one drug can't fix them all. It just causes much more problems than in the first place.

heh, there's no such thing as ADD, it's a brand scientists give to slightly harder to control kids with parents who can't control their kids. To dose them up until they're docile instead of teaching parents to do their duty as parents better is a bag of crap.
totally agree with you on the anti-creativity-smushing ideals

That's pretty cool. It makes sense and I totally get it. My mom swore I had ADD so she got me tested, more than willing to put me on the meds. Turns out I was negative(even though at this point I think it should have been positive). But, I agree and I'm glad I wasn't put on the drugs. I've always been creative and thats how I like it ^_^
