So it's been awhile for a digital piece, hope you like it
As a once psychology major, I was intrigued by Freud's theory on the id and ego of the human psyche. It has been many years since those classes so my words may be somewhat off. But this piece is a self representation (aren't they all?) of myself and how the "id" and "ego" play in our life decisions.
We all seek pleasure and that constant feeling of euphoria, and our "id"'s only goal is to achieve those feelings without worry or care about the consequences of such actions. It is our "ego" that keeps the "id" in line, allowing us to think before we act, and to be able to foresee what may come of this pleasure seeking.
It is a constant battle that wages on beneath our skin and sometimes the "id" overcomes. Some choose to live only by the "id"s bidding and never realize the destruction they leave behind when seeking their pleasures. I have been through that lifestyle once, and as much as I enjoyed such pleasures in bountiful amounts....the aftershock of those actions can still be felt today.

Anywho, I have some of your older art on my desktop. Looks real nice with my sinister-looking alienware desktop skin.
I'll get the photos to you probably tomorrow. I have to find a way to take them. (I don't have anyone to hold the camera for me. I don't know what I'm going to do.) And I'll try to put together a kick-ass outfit if my clothes are clean. If I don't, don't be disappointed. Sorry if my ugly face ruins the photos, but hell. . . it's about the art, right?

Wow, this is more then amazing, i lvoe the back ground colours, almost gorgeous dissonace creating some sort of uneasy harmony. I also like how the ego and id form a heart almost kind of symbolic of their nature

I haven't looked back at your gallery for a while due to my general absence from the site, but wow...
I love your work as a whole, almost as a growing being if that makes sense, but this piece really speaks to me.
I started off as an Education major (now taking a psych minor) so I've had a lot of classes and sections thereof that deal with Freud and neofreudians and thus, the Id, Ego, and Superego. I've dealt with Psychoanalytic criticism and the interpretations taken from it, so I guess you could say I'm poised to see certain creations from a Freudian perspective...
The darkness inherent in this is very fitting of concepts regarding the Id. The shadow you added in the being here (more so than in earlier "progress" images as I looked) adds a lot to that, as well as the Id and Ego conjurings seemingly being made of darkness itself... Their glowing, burning eyes seem to point to the way in which their influence penetrates the mind and soul, burning through to make itself dominatingly heard and obeyed.
I notice there was no Superego mentioned, and I saw the comment regarding that, also. I actually kind of like that it wasn't obviously incorporated... It makes the mood of this much darker, meatier of a sort, and I think fits the general feeling of your work much better. Of course, another dark aspect could be that the being itself IS the superego as you suggested in a reply, and if so, it appears as if the Id and Ego are conjuring themselves in order to gang up on the cringing Superego (the moral one, of course)... I like that, as well...
It was great to see the progress on this and then the finished product!

This is a wonderful representation of the ego. although personally I'm more of a Carl Jung fan then of Freud.
BTW thanks for the insight into how you work. I've said it once and ill say it again, you are by far my favorite Visual artist on I've found on the net. Probably the only one who's work id honestly like more is Alex Grey, and well he draws for Tool. you cross a gap i only wish i could. Maybe someday *dreams*

Psychology has always intrigued me! But in college, I think I'll probably major in art, and minor in something like electrical engineering and computer programing. Just a little bit of my nerdy side ^_^

Thank you very much. I always grew tired of artist's who never wanted to open up about their pieces. They wanted the viewer to "make up their own story". I want you to be able to connect to my work the same way I do, but that doesn't mean you can't develop another connection that may be unrelated
