Description
My first traditional colored drawing of the Codibugnolo bird. I wasn't planning on my next drawing to be full color, but I guess one "certain" deviant persuaded me otherwise.Tools: Strathmore Smooth Bristol Paper
Junk colored pencils found around my house (Lol! I don't have good quality pencils yet), white gel pen, kneaded eraser.
Time: 8.5 hours.
Reference: Long-Tailed Tit photo found on Google.

Beautiful!Β

Though I can't help wishing the bird had a tattoo. Β Somehow the thought of tatt for tit seems like a change of pace. Β

oh wait... I just saw the placement of your signature. Β That could almost be a tattoo taking wing, so to speak! Β

Aaah, it's so fluffy! I want to hug it!!
How did you do that have such even colors with pencils? We always see big irregular pencil strokes on my traditional drawings and I don't like at all.
And the black color looks so vibrant!

Thank you!
How? Many layers, much blending, & many hours. I begin with a light layer of a color. & then just keep filling in, more blending with other colors, darken areas, etc. Big irregular strokes probably means you're pressing down too hard. It's easier to blend pencils when you draw just a light layer first. Hope this helps!

Thank you so much for your answer.
I understand better now. I think I was pressing too hard and that I didn't have the patience to make enough layers.
Thank you a lot for you advice. β₯

This lovely picture brought back a memory from several years ago.Β I was in my garden and heard a lot of chirping and saw seven or eight tiny long-tailed tit fledglings, clearly having just left the nest, all lined up on a couple of branches of a large rose bush, at my eye height.Β There was no parent in sight.Β I approached them and they did not fly away.Β Indeed I took off my glasses (I am rather short sighted) and went up to about 6 inches from them to get a really close look.Β They continued to chirp and occasionally one would turn round on the branch.Β They displayed no fear of me at all.Β After several minutes they all flew off to the other side of my garden and lined up again, this time on a branch of an apple tree.Β I went over and was able to continue my close inspection there before they eventually flew away.Β Beautiful little birds!

They are beauties! I only discovered this kind of bird months ago. They're only in Europe, I think, so I'll probably never get to see one. You're lucky to have seen that many of them! I mostly have encounters with baby American Robins.
Thank you for your comment!
