SO. My buddy *booker has this webcomic thingummy called Skin Deep , that's all about monsters and mythology and music and snazzy things like that. AS WE'RE BUDS AND ALL, I've gone and created a few supporting cast members for her comic in my free time (only fair, as she's given me a couple for Team D.U.D.E.). Why have you lot never seen them before? Simple: Furries Ruin Everything. I haven't been comfortable with drawing and sharing anthropomorphic characters in the open for ages now because of furries, so while I've drawn these characters for Kory many times over a lengthy period of time, I've never really shared any.

But my other friend *ladydragona went and did this neat series of her own characters-for-Skin-Deep, and I was inspired to come out of my shell and share a few of my own. THANKS SFE.

So hopefully, I'll be posting a bunch of quick little portraits and drawings of the mythological-based characters I've made for Kory's comic, and all in a relatively short period of time. LET'S SEE HOW MANY I CAN DO.

NAME: Petrus Isaac "Ike" Sanford
AGE: 23
INFO: This is Ike! I Like Ike. Several folks Like Ike. I'm going to have to keep most of his description and background brief, as Kommander Koryander may have plans and I don't want to spoil, so let's see.

Ike is a rarity in SD's world of mythological monsters: he's a Hybrid that Shouldn't Be. The offspring of a Buggane (English goblin that's basically an aquatic shapeshifting horse-monster that likes waterfalls and streams) and a Manticore (bright-red lion with three rows of teeth, creepy blue eyes, poisonous quills, the ability to eat most anything and other un-nerving things), Ike's a real mish-mash of genetics and magic. Magic is volatile in SD and can really screw with a person, so much like *ladydragona 's Anthony , Ike is a one-of-a-kind freak with lots of issues to deal with. His mom, step-dad and brothers (one of whom is pictured above, the little scamp) are all purebred, normal Bugganes, which makes him feel even more of an outcast.

Ike is lucky in that he doesn't need a medallion because Bugganes are natural shapeshifters and he inherited that ability, but it's a physical process and he's pretty embarrased about it, and refuses to be seen in his fullform (which he changes into very rarely in any case). He's basically a horse-lion creature with aquatic bits here and there. Horse's mane instead of a lion's, hooves instead of backpaws, etc. The hooves mean he's always either barefoot or in sandals when human, and he has to re-bind the quill-covered end of his tail every time he shifts. He's 6'2" when human, and those wonky legs make him even taller when in midform, and his fullform is somewhere in size between a lion and a horse. And he's got all that webbing and crap but no gills? Talk about a rip-off!

Ike's pretty moody and angsty about all this, naturally. He's something that Shouldn't Be, and because Manticores are still considered evil monsters he's afraid of himself and some folk are pretty suspicious of him. When he can shake off the self-focused wangst and temper long enough, he's actually a pretty nice guy with a wicked sense of humor and sarcasm, and dreams about writing books some day.

As Manticores have the peculiar ability to sing beautifully and imitate bells, whistles and other brass instruments, Ike's a pretty good singer and imitator. Much like his best-friend-since-childhood Alec, who he shares a flat with, Ike makes a living via singing with whoever wants him to, fixing pianos and similar instruments, and bar bets. Despite suspicions Ike is friendly with a number of folk, and Rhonda is his girlfriend (Fun Fact: the first thing she ever said to him was "SMILE DAMMIT"). They Like Ike.

I'm pretty pleased with how Ike's page came out! Though his took a little longer than the others because my base layout .PSD for the project mysteriously disappeared randomly, and I had to make another from scratch. It was worth it though, Ike's one of my favorites.
