Description Hah, well sort of. My neck isn't as meaty among other things...I think this painting really sucks but I love the tree and the grass. Best part of the whole thing. Did i mention I suck at painting even though I love it. Irony is a bitch.

Nice colours!

You've got some very good shading which separates different planes of the face, gives an impression of texture and some depth. The darker colour of the nose is what places it further back in the picture than the other parts of the face, turning the face somewhat flatter than it needs to be. The glasses hasn't been equipped with any texture or lighting, which makes them stand out very sharply. The hair has the same surface as the face, but in a different colour - this makes it look like a single mass, not quite attached to the face, in particular as the glasses comes between the two layers of texture.

Proportions is somewhat random, I think you would benefit from marking some of the basic symmetry lines of the face before you lay down the main surfaces.

A problem I usually have is fighting the medium - forgetting to use the unique properties of whatever I'm using at the moment, and trying to force it to mirror exactly what I imagine, or my favourite effects from other media. There's some features which are unique to paint, which can be used to good effect in the picture.

Yeah, I was experimenting with oil paints for the first time and majorily fucked up on the nose. Oils are great for blending but suck ass when you're trying to cover something up. Thanks for all the input though.
