Description

The R2-P12 Astromech Droid was bulky and had an internal bright yellow memory core, a large silver dome, two large antennae. It’ts primary functions involve navigation, communication, and onboard maintenance of space vessels. It was build by Sunsystems Droidworks (SD), a rival of Industrial Automaton (IA) and Cybot Galactica (CG), but never got as major and prominent as these two specialized droid makers for droids of all work of life. Sunsystem Droidworks, with it’s headquarters in the Quadruple Sun System of Iodrok, a Inner Rim World. Unlike it’s two major rivals, whom it often blandly copied, the Sunsystem Droidworks droid models were mostly much simply colored, overall to bulky, unfriendly looking and older outdated models for a much cheaper price. The fact that Sunsystem Droidwork droids were so much more bigger, bulkier, often with more outdated technologies meant they were not as prominent throughout the Galaxy, as clearly the lower price in Credits did not make up for all these benefits to most people. However the Sunsystem Droidwork Droids became rather prominent among the less financial fluid species, worlds, companies and conglomerated of the Outer Rim and would later largely join the Separatist Alliance during the Separatist Crisis. In the Clone Wars the conglomerate of Sunsystem Droidwork became famous for arming and armoring their own crappy droid models, as well as to use much older, outdated OOM-series Battle Droids most Separatist Companies and Conglomerates had abandoned by then for multiple reasons. While Sunsystem Droidwork was a major galactic droid company and conglomerate with five subsidiaries, bigger then most regional sector, system and planetary ones existing, they were still a rather minor one compared to Industrial Automaton and Cybot Galactica (CG), which was why there were many Core Worlds, Colony Worlds and other more in the center of the Galaxy and the Republic, yes even within the Expansion Region often did not know much, if anything about Sunsystem Droidworks, as their company had mainly expanded into the Rim, were their cheaper, even if worse droids had found much better local markets for themselves.

Because the Sunsystem Droidworks droids were so bulky, had inferior programming and artificial intelligence droid brains, they were not seen as to dangerous and threatening by the Galactic Republic Clone Troopers, who would fight against them. Knowing this as well Sunsystem Droidwork tried to use their droids undercover, disguising them as civil models on various worlds with either hidden blasters and explosives to ambush and kill Clone Trooper occupation and invasion forces on several Rim Worlds. Because their droids were so cheap, some Clones actually started making a habit out of shooting them on sight, before they could ambush them, resulting in a series Droid shortage on many Rim worlds, that in combination with the overall Clone Wars and the anti-droid sentiments on many worlds afterwards resulted in a bias of droids alongside that, which combined with the overall infrastructure and industry destruction of the Clone Wars Outer Rim Sieges and Reconquest of the Rim during the Clone Wars crippled many local droid-depending industries, economies and overall services. With the integration of captured worlds into the Republic/ Empire local factories of Sunsystem Droidworks would be nationalized and taken over by the Republic/ Imperial military-industrial-complex to produce weaponry, armored and droids closer to the front-line to keep the Outer Rim Sieges and Reconquest of the Rim going throughout the Clone Wars more efficiently then otherwise possible, if they would have continued to rely upon much longer supply and reinforcement routes from the Core World, Colonies, Expansion Region, or Inner Rim instead. Those parts of Sunsystem Droidworks taken over by the Republic/ Empire would be renamed Republic Sunsystem Droidworks (RSD) and Imperial Sunsystem Droidworks (ISDW) respectively and continue operating, often even under many of the same Separatist, often alien personal and specialists, with often only fore-workers being replaced by Republic Loyalist ones and later Imperial Human ones to take a more direct and complete control over these regional captured conglomerate companies, especially their industries, factories and mines that were now used by the Republic/ Empire instead.
