I have to say that I love Undertale. The characters and story line and music and emotions are top-notch. Asriel is especially a character that I connected with and loved. I cried during my first playthrough when I heard Asriel's story. I ended up writing a fanfiction titled FloweyTale that went through the story of what happened to Asriel when he first woke up as a flower with control of the timeline and how that eventually led to him becoming the Flowey we meet at the beginning of Undertale. Just in general, I felt like Asriel was the character I connected with the most in the game, though Sans is definitely one of my favorite characters still. I started doing this drawing of Asriel's Absolute God of Hyperdeath form about the same time as I started writing the final chapter of my FloweyTale story. It's pretty sad that it's now a year later and I just barely finished this picture and I'm only maybe halfway done with the final chapter of FloweyTale. :/ I am a horrible procastinator. Whoops.

The sad thing is that during most of that year between when I started and when I finished, this picture was completed except for his legs and feet. For whatever reason, I was really struggling to draw a good pose for him, so I left the picture mostly abandoned. It wasn't until I took my husband to a park near our house and had him hang on the monkey bars while I took pictures of his feet that I was finally able to finish it. In my defense for why I haven't updated much in a long time, this year has been crazy. I went to college, had some super stressful classes, I got a boyfriend, fell in love with him, got married, just basically a lot of stuff has been going on.

I did enjoy doing this picture. Photoshop did not. Apparently four seperate rainbow layers with layer masks on them make photoshop lag and occasionally crash. Who knew. But they're super pretty! I really do like rainbows. I think that's one of the reasons I chose to do this particular picture. I also wanted to challenge myself by having dramatic lighting that came from one source of light that he was holding. When I originally drew my concept sketches for the pic, I had him only holding one sword, but when I was trying to figure out what to do with his other hand, it dawned on me that Asriel double-wields those swords and I felt silly and added in the second sword. It did change my lighting criteria a bit, but that's ok. It was definitely fun posing my husband with a couple of lights in his hands while he was wearing his death cloak so I could get good reference pictures. The clothing was also on my list of challenges for drawing this. I think it turned out well, though. A bit dark, but that just accents those beautiful rainbows of his.

And yes, I do know that Asriel doesn't get those wings until he's in his final form, but the final form looks weird. And Asriel looks cool with those wings. So there.
