Description I wasn't sure if I should post this seeing as how it's just a still life, but it's my first drawing assignment in college, so I might as well post it.

There's really not much to say about this. We were told to draw a line art of a cup and a cake and then shade it. They provided several different reference pictures, all of them showing a cup and a cake. I chose this particular reference pic because the plate was frilly and pretty.

We were also allowed to choose whatever medium, be it graphite, charcoal, or ink. Well, I've never touched a charcoal pencil before in my life, and I am hesitant to use ink on my first assignment since I'm still not as comfortable with it. This seems to have worked.

I was trying to focus on subtle things like the reflections of light in the cup and in the table. I accidentally made the cup too short, but that's ok.

The cake is a lie.

This is very good! I'm happy you're able to study at college. I could have, and did go quite a few semesters, but had so much else I wanted that art always never came to mind... until decades later.
