It's Speedball super black Indian ink. I haven't used much other inks, so I'm not sure how it is in comparison with others

thats a nice ink actually. my recommends if ever looking for another though would either be PH Martins High Carbon(for waterproof smooth bleeds) or Golden Panda(for non waterproof very unique bleeds). also theres a mix i make of 4 differant inks if you ever want to try it let me know and ill tell you how to make it.

Ideally I'd like an ink that's the deepest black possible, also that doesn't travel/flatten out so much when put on a wet surface. I'm not sure what the difference between waterproof and non-waterproof inks are, though

if your looking for the deepest black id go with PH Martin Hi Carb.
do you mean that doesnt bleed much on wet surface(is in spread and lighten)
only real difference to me between waterproof and non is waterproof clogs ur quills and brushes. while
non waterproof will smear if you touch it with something wet(like if your hands sweat alot).

one other thing, you might notice that theres warm and cold black ink, that thins to either a brownish hew or a cold greyish hew,
if you dont like the brownish mix about 1/4-1/3 of the black ink with indigo ink(my favorite mix is a flat and gloss black ink mixxed with inigo and silver inks)

Yeah, one that doesn't bleed much, if that's possible. That's always been something that annoyed me, I'd paint something only to have it dissapated into a grey blob a few minutes later.

When you say non waterproof will smear, you mean after it's dried it can be rewetted?

And I'd actually like a warm black ink for that brown hue, is there one you'd recommend?

ph martins hi carb has the most even bleed but it still bleeds, you could always try only wetting the part of the paper you want the ink to bleed into. or you could just not wet the paper at all if you want no bleeding. still bleeding can be a crazy beautiful thing in its own way, it take away a bit of control but it makes some texture thats impossible without that technique.

yeah non waterproof can smebe rewetted after its dried, if you use a really good brush id recommend non waterproof.

alot of inks allready have a warm black hew, the blue cold is the rare one. you could likely make it thin browner with some
cuddlefish ink or walnut(any sepia ink really(bombay makes especially good good sepia ink though IMO)

Yeah really I usually don't like it when the bleed is a real gradual, linear fade. It just seems a bit boring. I prefer the real tendril-like bleed that's kinda random.

Thank you for the tips, by the way, you've been very helpful

if you like tendril like bleeds go for a pine suit ink(an asian ink like golden panda, or yasumoto), and non waterproof.

np, i am weirdly meticulous about mah inks, let me know if you think of any other Qs.

A tree with a skull shaped into the trunk, and a big owl resting in it, on top of a floating island. The whole scene almost looks as if it was on fire, and there`s a little guy pointing to the top of the treetop where people are dancing. Complicated much, haha?
