Description Agh. I don't even have the words to express how impossibly slow I've been with this picture. Sorry! ": S

This is specifically made for who asked me to draw some sort of a futuristic scenery with neon feeling. I think I'm still far away from any neon, but I assure you: I tried! Many, many times. This topic has taught me quite a bit, actually... even if I didn't really attain the result I had wished to. I'm sorry.

I could tell you all sorts of details concerning on the picture but I fear I'll have to leave it all to your imagination to find out. Clock is 3:00 AM in the morning local time and I'm a bit tired already. Maybe I'll add them here later. But for now I had decided to get this all done and submitted before having to once again run an errand elsewhere and survive without internet for a while. : D I'm in a position to make a sophisticated guess stating that I've let to wait faaaaaar too long for me to finish with this already. I hope you like this even though I kind of failed with the neon-part... "^^ Might be I'll give this theme a new go sometime in the future. And I'll also try to make up for the time you've had to wait, somehow. : )

(for your delight)
WORKING STAGES:

ATTEMPT 1.
Plenty of sketches with pencils, ink, ballpoint pen, watercolours, gouache... you name it. (FAIL)

ATTEMPT 2.
Pencil -> ballpoint pen --> scan --> cleaning --> an attempt to colour with the computer (FAIL) --> copying the clean lineart --> colouring with colouring pens (FAIL) --> colouring with watercolours (FAIL) --> colouring with colouring pens (again, FAIL) --> happening to buy new paper with different colour --> new copy, new try with colouring pens (hopefully not complete fail...)

...and this is not even the complete list. As said, this picture summarizes a lot of somewhat thoroughly learned experiences. Very, very useful exercise this was. Thank you digitalcorrosion for a great theme! : )

I realize the picture is a bit off what comes to the composition. Originally it was much wider, but only after writing down this text I happened to realize - after taking a thousandth glance on the picture - that I had made one major mistake concerning on perspective. Geez. Face palm. *sigh* There obviously exists times when nothing seems to work.)

That is amazing! I'm not sure what is going on, but it's beautiful and has depth. I like the sense of hugeness and mystery it has, gives it an other-worldly feel. Also, beautiful lines and color choice.

Thank you. I have had so many headaches with this picture but some are just like that. It feels as if they require one to dig a tunnel under the wall, so to say.

Oh wow I really like the atmosphere of this one. Despite the fact that this one has given you such heartache in trying to get right, I think it has been done very well! I love all the little details in the spires and the perspective of the building in general. It definitely gives you the feeling of futuristic, but also of fantasy and just in general a whole new world in itself! Do you think you will stick with this version or try again? What are the white cones for I wonder..

Thank you! Thank you. It really has given me both headache and heartache. I hate to submit any halfs of art trades if I'm not sure whether I've completely failed with the theme given.

I think - if I ever redo this task - I should start with a completely new setting. =___= This was a nice piece to work with as an overall, nonetheless. Actually I hardly ever post on dA anything I don't personally like.

And the world actually has a story behind it. (I'm terribly afraid I'm unable to work with anything properly without indulging in storytelling. As I couldn't avoid the more "naturalistic" forms and shapes) the building ended up representing a natural history museum including among others a full grown forest and a realistic looking lakeside.

The white cones, on the other hand, are for collecting solar energy on the daytime. They also collect water during night as the water vapor in the air condensates on the surfaces of the cones. Some of them are also used for storing water as well as heating it during the sunny times of the day.
