Description
It's a new kind of storyboarding tutorial…This is the storyboard I drew for a 30-second SpongeBob Burger King commercial. See the original commercial here: www.dailymotion.com/video/xczt…
I have marked up THIS particular submission with commentary notes to give some insight into the storyboarding process!
You can see the unmarked storyboard pages at >> bit.ly/SpongeBobCommercial <<

This concept seems vaguely familiar...it's interesting to see the storyboarding process works, and to compare it to the process of drawing comics. Thanks for this!

I hope I can storyboard some day... or draw.... Or.... whatever....
A question, do you need a college degree for this? If so, which one?

I looked on YouTube to see if I could find the finished product, and stumbled on another BK SpongeBob ad that I totally forgot about, and wish I could once again forget. And here it is: [link]

This was very interesting to read, do you by chance know if the final product is somewhere on a video site? I'd love to see the translation from production to post-production!

Oh my gosh I learned so much.
But I fail to see the difference between Scene 7B and 7C. You mentioned the horizon is lower? But I fail to see it sorry...
And what is a jump cut? o v o

Oh…I meant it's different between 7C and 8A. I guess I should have made that clearer...
And a jump cut? That'll take a LOT of explaining so it's a good topic for a future tutorial

This is actually very insightful. I'm currently taking a class where we have to do storyboards, but we don't get the in depth breakdown like you did here. It makes me actually see that there is more put into storyboards than just movement and actions. I'll try to keep this in mind the next time I do one.

In matter of fact, why should I +fav that tips to "Important to dA" instead of "Tutorials" from one of my +fav folders? :S

Seeing Spongebob's funny rearranged face makes me think about how it was mentioned that the artists who work on the Spongebob cartoons love to keep drawing the characters in the weirdest and wackiest ways I laugh so hard at many of the goofy expressions over the last decade.
This is so cool to see! I hope I can watch the finished commercial

very cool!! Just curious though it looks like it was done traditionally. Is it more popular to do it traditionally or to use computer programs. I like photoshop with layer comps. But I don't know which way is used more.

This was drawn traditionally back in 2006. Five years ago, we were just starting to move into digital storyboards, but most studios have switched over to digital just in the last 3 years. Almost all the TV animation studios are using Toon Boom Storyboard Pro…a few are using Photoshop or Flash.
