Sonic will always live on Mobius to me, even if Sega doesn't seem to want Sonic to live on either Mobius or Earth.

Not just in Archie, SatAM, AoStH and Underground series. But in the Sega Genesis games as well from the start in 1991, named by the very same guy who named Doctor Ivo Robontik, Badniks, animal friends and many other things ^^

I always liked that name for Sonic's home world. (Even if nowadays his home planet is just considered earth.)

Well 'e'arth just means the surface of a planet, like you would say the earth of Mobius. But yeah Sonic's World is Mobius, its only 'E'arth by some fans.

I think it depends on the canon really.

In fact, in the comic they did reveal Mobius was a futuristic earth. (It was said this was also going to be revealed in the SatA.M. cartoon, as well.)
Though, seeing how now the comic doesn't refer to it by name it can be "Mobius," or "Earth" if the fan choses.

Very true
but in 1991 Sega had Mobius as the homeworld for Sonic and that Earth was light years away from that planet in the series plus in a different dimension, this later was used in StaySonic and StC.

And yeah the comics are totally different now because of Ian Flynn trying to fuse the comics with the modern games plus Ken Penders and his drama..

That was Sega of America & Sega of Europe though. I don't think Sega in Japan originally had that intention. They just considered Sonic from "South Island." Overall, the old games didn't have much official backstory anyways, depending on which source you're refering to.

In fact, rumor has it the name "Mobius" for Sonic's home-planet came from a mistranslation from Japanese Sega people being interviewed, when they were actually refering to "mobius strips" like the one near the end of the first level of Sonic 2.

The comics have always had things from the games in them actually if you look at the earlier issues in "Sonic Archives." (Even before, and after Ken Penders wrote for them.) So Ian adapting things from them is nothing new really.
Like they used to have all the old badnik robots in them, as well as game-adaption stories. (Like of "Sonic Spinball," and "Sonic Triple Trouble" which introduced Nack/Fang to the comics.)
Ian's also adapted some things from SatA.M. before, (Like Nicole's camera robot looking exactly like the ones Robotnik using in SatA.M. which was a nice li'l callback to that show) even brought roboticization back.

Yeah, shame about the whole "Ken Penders copyright" fiasco, and such... (Which sadly left alot of plot-threads unfinished. Like the "Geoffrey & Naugus" one, sense they can't use Geoffrey anymore.) Shame to lose alot of the comic's canon, and characters. (But at least the SatA.M. & game characters are safe. In fact, surprisingly the obscure Sega characters Mighty & Ray are still allowed in the comic.)

Yes but remember that was up to Sega of America for the story and final design for the character said by Naoto Oshima aka "Big Island" who wanted Sonic to be handled by Americans, whilst Yuji Naka hated that idea. But hey it worked, SoA did an amazing job, and the SoJ Sonic didn't do well at all in Japan because of Yuji Naka.

And ooh man no way, that was a untrue thing that fans of Japanese Sonic made up. In 1991 SoA made the ideas for the names of the characters and such, the person who named "Doctor Ivo Robotnik", "Doctor Ovi Kintobor", "Badniks", names of the Badniks, "Joe Sushi", "Johnny Lightfoot", "Sally Acorn", "Porker Lewis" and even the planet "Mobius" was former Sega member Dean Sitton, and yes even back then Sega of Japan knew this, believe me not? Check out even the Japanese Sonic Spinball manual you'll be surprised, and what Yuji Naka meant by Mobius was not the corkscrews of Emerald Hill Zone but he clearly said the worlds of Mobius the Mobius worlds the zones, there were new Mobius zones to be played out in Sonic 2 than from Sonic 1. And no SoA is not SoJ's dog, SoA if anything was the main Sega back in Hawaii.
The reason why Sonic doesn't seem he is on Mobius in the Adventure series is because 1. Most members up at SoA dropped out because of Yuji Naka being a racist towards them during Sonic x-treme (ironically Sonic Adventure took things from Sonic X-treme), 2. to make Sonic more realistic, 3. By now we should of already know the planet of Sonic, and 4. the word "earth" is used for any planet.

I agree it was a dang shame and Ken Penders is still up to his lawsuits even this year, no wonder Sega doesn't want to add anything from the comics into their games anymore, well Sonic Chronicles did (mostly homages from the classic days) but Ken Penders attacked it like a mad man... And this is why we can't have nice things...

I heard they actually wanted Sonic to be a huge hit in America, (despite being a Japanese property) that's why they made his colors red, white, and blue like the USA flag.

Actually if you google it Japan had different names for all the badniks, and characters. I've heard conflicting stories between the American & Japanese versions of Sonic of "which came first," and "which one is more canon," that it's hard to say what is true now honestly.
Though, I'm not going to label Yuji Naka as "racist/xenophobic," and such with little proof... Though, I did hear he wanted fewer Americans working on Sonic 3 for some reason, and that's why they let STI (Sega's American development team) be able to make "Sonic Spinball" 100%. (Also it was said that the planet "Mobius" just to tie-in to the cartoon series, and merchandise.)

Overall, I like both the American, and Japanese Sonic canons/products. I get tired of some fans always arguing about them.

Yeah, shame about the Penders' fiasco.
