Description Yep. You Cannot scan a ferret. I've been really quiet lately and this little fluffy turdfactory is basically the reason. Maybe not, but I feel like blaming it on her any way.
New weasel + Scanner = This mess.

No she's not throwing up or anything she was licking up a treat. That nasty yellow stuff.
And I know the section for this is all wrong and very abused. I'll scrap it as soon as a certain cheesedanish lets me.

lol why would you do something like this? and let me guess, she's licking Ferratone? I have 3, my silver boy is shown in the picture, and licks peoples noses Haku(his nickname is Hershey[you know, hershey kisses?]), and I have two sables, one guy(Pochi [a.k.a Bandit because he steals the treats]) one girl (Chiko, or originally Chica.

I've thought about scanning my ferret, Waffles. The only thing stopping me is the fact that my scanner is in my dorm room and the ferret is in my boyfriend's apartment...

Man, ive always wanted a pet ferret but my parents wont let me and its illegal to bye them were i live, so i stick to owning rats. She dosent even like being put back in her cage never the less geting scanned but i like taking picks of her especially when she hangs upside down in her cage

Ah, well with this I'm with the 'rents. Ferrets are pretty intensive financially, time and energy to care for. It really only works well when *everyone* in the household is for it. Besides having your beloved pet taken by the authorities only to be put down is heartbreaking!

Future may change, and if you do find yourself looking towards a ferret some day DO YOUR RESEARCH! I can't stress that more! They're great, but so much work and money to keep properly.
((Right now, feeding mine raw and that's even more work! And it's not easy since mice 'n such are cute -never feed anything alive though!-))

how come its kinda fractured? is the scanner scratched up or was that the effect it gave?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

shiftyferret In reply to orgasmic-georgasmic [2009-08-26 05:46:57 +0000 UTC]

Oh, the 'effect' was just her moving too much and the scanner not liking it.

When the scanner did a faster preview scan she came out okay and very ferret looking. However the slower detailed scan... came out as you see it.

Hey before you do pick up your dream girls... do yourself ad the ferrets a HUGE favor.

Go research everything you can about them. I can't stress this enough. Ferrets are COSTLY, in time and money. If your ferret comes from one of the huge breeders/petstores chances are extremely high(Like 98%) they will require surgery later in life.

(All of the ferrets I have known personally that were not killed by early accident have died of some form of cancer. All of mine that have passed had died because of their cancers... and I have *two* right now that need surgery because of cancer-tumors and I'm working hard to see that they get it)

So you *will* need to be ready to drop a lot of money on them. It's terribly sad, but that is where they stand today. Also food is extremely important. A lot of conditions can be avoided if you feed them properly.

You'll need a very high protein diet for them, most cat/kitten .. and even food labeled as 'ferret' food don't even come CLOSE!

I do recommend Totally Ferret for starters, it's not too expensive as the foods go, but still look to spend around $20 a bag, and it's not the worst.

And they will need time, a lot of time. They live in cages but they are NOT cage animals. They require a lot of socialization to be happy.
They're very messy, and you have to keep on top of it if you don't want your home to smell foul.

... And before you pick one up from a petstore(which I am ENTIRELY against), please please please contact a ferret shelter in your area. I cannot stress enough how great a path this is. I'm volunteering at a shelter whenever I can, and there are so many wonderful ferrets that desperately need homes. You wouldn't believe how many baby ferrets end up at a shelter! (Though honestly, I'm all about the older ferrets... especially for those of us starting out. Trust me, adult ferrets ROCK).
Not only will you get the benefit of saving a ferret, you'll have a huge amount of backup and support waiting for you. A ferret shelter will be able to answer any ferrety question that comes up. Their advice is golden!

Please don't take this harshly, but I've seen so many ferrets bought impulsively and it *never* ends well, for the owner or the animal. Ferrets are great pets, but they are not for every one.... and there's nothing wrong with that.

Want to kick off some easy research? Go read Ferrets For Dummies. I *love* that book. It's funny, easy to read... and will tell you just about everything you need to know. Including all the medical issues you *will* run into later on!

thanks for the advice lol But i'm afraid my Father has kindly said "NO! I'VE BEEN TOLD THE F****** STINK! EVEN IF THEY'VE BEEN NEUTERED!" So thats the end of that... ¬_¬

They do indeed have a musky smell, with proper care that can be kept minimal.

Personally if you ask me, dogs STINK! I worked for several years at a grooming shop, bathing and grooming dogs. And I'll be the first to tell you dogs reek.

However no one seems bothered by it, I guess it's a smell every one is used to. Ferrets smell about as much as a dog does... but it's different. So it's picked up on faster.

She's older now, so I doubt I'd be able to keep her on there long enough. At that time she was pretty young and focused entirely on her tastey medication (thank god she thought it was yummy)

D: my ferret hated his medication, i had to practically force it down his throat.

Maybe i could scan him while feeding him a raising or something...he likes raisins.

shiftyferret In reply to bulmahater [2009-03-04 01:00:01 +0000 UTC]

*grins* That might work...

Just don't feed 'em too many. Anything with sugar is VERY bad for weasels. I've made that mistake and lost my first ferret very early because I didn't think a few sugary treats would hurt.

Now a days I don't give my fuzzbutts anything with sugar. I've found other treats and the ferrets don't seem to like the healthy stuff just as much.
