Description The 'Advanced Shielded Battle Armor' program was created shortly after the material for energy based friction shielding was discovered.
While other programs focused on simpler shield implementations to give added defense to large scale mech units, the ASBA design would focus on compacting the technology, both powered armor and shields, down into a smaller package with a focus on more discretely applied firepower.
The program would evolve bulky armor down into a more infantry friendly package. This new philosophy of use (a flexible soldier instead of walking tank) would come about by passing the task of defense from armor plates to shielding.
As the true potential of shield tech was revealed, the Elemental program was started with a concentration on developing such potential. Shielding materials being rare and expensive to synthesize, the ASBA program was redirected to rebuild their prototype into a new standard production suit that would return to armor for defense. It is now the standard mid weight powered armor of the Ranger army, coming an many variations and roles.

This is seriously superb, man! The anatomy is just perfect and the armour is AWESOME! I love the way the armour is forged, giving it a layer-by-layer look! Helm. seems a bit strange to me though, mostly because of it's colour. I would say, 9.5/10

This looks really nice in terms of color and the concept itself, but I find the anatomy of the guy inside the armor weird. Looking at the helmet and assuming it is as thick as it looks, the guy's head is quite small compared to the rest of his body. It's not a biggie, but still kinda gets to the overall composition.

Nevertheless it's well done. Good job, man.

P.S- Have you ever tried incorporating camo patterns to these kind of powerarmor-suit thingies? That might look quite cool.

My helmets are a bit hard to read, and I wont deny I cheat the volumes a bit like many do.
Not super thick armor, I may have messed up the proportions at some point, but they started correct

PenUser In reply to Shimmering-Sword [2011-06-24 16:09:08 +0000 UTC]

Well, yeah... although it'd be better if they'd end like they started, sometimes I get the same problem as well...

It could be something other than a human of course, that'd be a good explanation for the proportions.

That's backstory!

But what's the Ranger Army? (I doubt you mean Army Rangers, a subdivision of basic infantry that usually drop in-mass from planes, with sub-par kit, behind enemy lines)

And many people misunderstood that heavy infantry and vehicles use expensive shields, while General Infantry use cheap armor!

Shimmering-Sword In reply to SGT-Conley [2011-06-14 09:37:00 +0000 UTC]

It's even rarer than that, only the most well equipped of an armies most elite units use shields, the rest still resemble what we use today. There is the knowledge to make shields, but the materials are very hard to synthesize, and the original material almost impossible to find. So for the Rangers, only their Elementals come standard with it, some specialist mech squads also get the honor. Other factions who do not have access to the original material have more quickly learned to synthesize it from captured hardware (after the tough task of killing the user).
The Rangers are a subdivision of the Star Protectorate forces, tasked with cracking the planetary defenses of high value targets in unconventional means when full invasion is deemed not ideal.

SGT-Conley In reply to Shimmering-Sword [2011-06-15 23:00:36 +0000 UTC]

Such expensive infantry would only be used in extreme cases, like the full-scale invasion of a planet. I don't know anything about your universe (so I ask questions) but I'd assume planetary war is ULTRA rare (it would induce nuclear retaliation, by domestic means), even if you have unlimited hospitable worlds.
So, the individuals that compose these 'Ranger' units would need to stay sharp, they'd probably be in Special Forces units frequently deployed in both assault and tactical roles (like Russians, not Americans [you might need an explanation, sorry]) and 'chosen' to preform in 'Elemental' squads during 'cracking' operations.
I would like to inquire as to what are the warring groups (on planetary scale) and the domestic groups that drive their actions? (I'll feed your answer into a theory on 'how to kill a Elemental', and sorry for text-wallin!!)

If this guy were put on the field I think he would be totally screwed. Medium armor without shields? Hes pretty dead. Oh well great speed paint! Love the stripes on the armor. xD

Shimmering-Sword In reply to SardakarElite [2011-06-02 01:36:22 +0000 UTC]

Less dead than someone with no armor at all, and a smaller form than a tank. No they aren't super units like Elementals, but they have their roles.

So, in the Ranger universe, this is rare for a suit to be plated instead of shielded?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Shimmering-Sword In reply to Alpha1ance [2011-06-02 01:34:56 +0000 UTC]

No, rare to to be shielded. Which is why only the Elemental program continued to use shields after it replaced the ASBA as the research platform.

He doesn't. These soldiers have their rectums surgically removed. Their average lifespan is ridiculously lessened due to it and their dangerous line of work.
