Description
First off (here we go again) check out my Rangers Project kickstarter! www.kickstarter.com/projects/1… It's getting close to funded but needs that last push to make it.
Now back to the art. This was commissioned by someone over on the Battletech General threads in 4chan's traditional games board. A rather quick piece, so it's not as clean and detailed as my typical work.
A Mad Cat III and a Thunder Fox (both 55 ton medium mechs) of the Lyrian Commonwealth Jaegers are returning to base after a raid against enemy forces (likely Jade Falcon). They're fairly beat up, but their targets fared worse. A departure from the typical Jaegers half checkerboard pattern, this pair are marked with dazzle stripes.

Sounds pretty cool. I'll get started on that soon. Thanks!

You make stripes look so stylish. They wrap around the form of the mech and complement its segments so fluently.

Everyone likes old school stripes, they're just a little rare these days.

Yeah, but you did your homework on the camouflage. Dazzle camouflage was effectively used on WWI warships. The usefulness diminished after the invention of radar, but for something like a Mech battle, I would imagine the pilots would rely mainly on visual aim, and hence the stripes would actually be quite effective.
PS: Love the quad mech.

Or it could be a Mad Dog, since Mad Cats have PPC's and Mad Dogs don't.

Mad Cats don't always have PPCs, nor to Mad Dogs always have missiles. This is clearly a Mad Cat by visual identification, not to mention it's canon, so it fits

Wait... the Mad Cat was a 75-ton heavy mech, the Mad Cat MK2 was a 90-ton assault mech, and now the Mad Cat III is a 55-ton medium mech?
Obviously, the Mad Cat IV will be a scout mech, just to be even more confusing.

Well that's mostly the point, to have a mad cat model in each weight class. However, the MkIV is not a light, but instead 75ton rebuild of the original for selling to the IS.

I was being completely facetious, but there's actually a Mad Cat IV? Geez, I've been out of touch with Battletech for a while!
Would've been funny if the IV was a light mech, though.

Like this version of the Thunder Fox...
I tried to design a quad Mech once...the Btech community slapped it down and labeled it as a 'Zoid'. Of course, I had no concept at all how to design a Mech back then, I could probably do a better job now.

This client always lets me redesign things as I wish, so I wanted to make the Thunder Fox look a little nicer, it's also my first time painting a BT quad mech.
I think it will always be hard to get a quad past the community, they're such a rare unit and they don't have an established style either, so each fan will have their own ideas on what one should look like.

BY THE WAY I dreamt last night that I was on my way to class and was late because traffic in Dallas SUCKS...and I saw a SmartCar painted like these guys. When I saw it I almost wrecked my car because I was having an nerdgasm and freaking out over seeing something Mechwarrior.

I agree...
the real mindbender is quad Battle Armor. I mean..what?? How do you even pilot that. Protomechs are big enough that I can sorta see how it would work in a quad configuration, but Battle Armor is just too small.
I think I'll add the Carnivore to my Art List and take a whack at a redesign.
