Noticing a trend lately? I've had a lot of Battletech fan commissions come in over the last few months.This piece was done for No Guts No Galaxy and should be available as a shirt in their store soon: nogutsnogalaxy.myshopify.com/Β (notice my Marauder and Warhammer are up there)
As for the art, I was assigned to redesign the Shadowcat. If I've ever drawn one of these before it was way back when Mechwarrior 4 was fresh. Luckily this is one of those designs that was done quite well from the beginning, so it didn't require many changes, just some polishing up with modern looks.

Hey, it is best mech! Fast, light, jump jets, a bwoom cannon. It is a perfect example on why I prefer the clan mechs, light, quick and heavily armed.

i think the shadow cat is the best all round best for any situation mech for battle tech, not my favorite or the most powerful or fastest for the tonnage, but the adaptability for any situation makes this probably the best mech to have in your star or lanceΒ

I never understood why they put a hand on that mech. I hate handed mechs as it is (just out of aesthetic reasons), but that arm has almost no flexibility. wtf

Much as I like the version we got in mWO (to my own surprise) it's just hard to beat the look of that scissor jointed leg, no matter how impractical it would actually be. Β This...I think this is officially my favorite piece you have done Shim. Β And the best Shadowcat I have ever seen. Β I was never even a fanboy of the design, but now I kinda want a 3D mini based off that pic. As all sensibleΒ legal things go, CGL is making what it hasΒ the right to, and if HG doesn't like it they'll have to take real legal action, not just throwing around threatening glares.

I just never understood the addition of hands because...they are always made into a fist. If they dont use them to pick things up, why even have a hand?

They can be used to pick things up, and other general utility outside of combat. But yeah, usually just in a fist for punching.

You did absolutely marvelous with this, particularly the shadows and the scratches along the armor. It really gets the wear and tear that they're bound to experience pat down while making it look really aesthetically pleasing.
I remember being a little kid playing Mechwarrior 3, and of all the 'Mechs the Shadowcat tended to stick out as one of my top favorites. Just always has been iconic to me, sort of like how you can instantly recognize Summoners/Thors and Timber Wolves/Mad Cats - I can just tell by her sleek silhouette what she is. Now that I'm older, I can truly appreciate all that speed and that gauss rifle punch properly.
To say the least, you really brightened my day with this - she's as gorgeous as I remember her from all those years ago, and with a great modern look. Cheers!

My latest memory of a shadowcat was in MWLL where me and my teammate were both in an Atlas and rushing the enemy base before time was up. A Shadowcat jumped within view, I twisted my torso and fired instantly with my Gauss. Chunk of metal went straight into the cockpit and it did a 720 somersault before going into the treeline...Good times.
All in all its a great medium mech. would totally play it if it gets into MWO!

I always feel that the arms(with hands) in clan mechs are a little stupid. If you've ever animated a model of one of these clan mechs you'll notice immediately the problem of having only one point of articulation in the arm. It makes it a bit like a T-rex with stubby little arms which are no use for anything. It's hard to drop it in a redesign though as it's one of the first most obvious points of recognition...

I loved this baby in MW4. Β It had all the right averages. Β Piece of crap in late game, but at the beginning it is everything you could want in a mech.

I thought the game was a bit too generous giving it to you as a starter mech. I liked starting in a light mech in MW4 Mercs.
