Description
About half way through the dump of official Battletech lineart now. This "classic" (or "newseen" as the fans call it) set of mechs is intended to refresh the art for some early era mechs.
My goal was to be as faithful as possible to the originals to deliver something recognizable and iconic, yet still come up with something original.
And yet another design yet to be published or have a prototype shown, though those who lurk btg will have seen it a few days ago.
I really like how this Stinger came out, more so than the Wasp. I wasn't able to go with the TV head option on the Shadow Hawk, but I secured it here, also the slabby lower legs.
This is also the one mech of the set that I sculpted myself, but you wont be seeing that any time soon.

Definitely not my preferred way of working, but I get it done.

I love this! Great blend of original and new with these updates.
Why did the Stinger and Wolverine get forearm-mounted guns instead of keeping a handheld like the Battlemaster and Phoenix Hawk, though?

I prefer side or under mounted guns, and going all with handhelds would start to get restrictive on variety.

So it was just personal preference? That's cool. The main difference from the Stinger and Wasp in the 80s seemed to be a wrist-mounted gun vs. a hand-held, and now they both have wrist-mounts, so I was just wondering. I still think your updates look amazing.

Yep personal preference. Though with the later addition of handheld weapon rules, that made keeping old designs that look like they're holding a gun not match the stats. Top mounted weapons can also inhibit elbow mobility too. So my personal preference is also influenced by practicality.

Knew it was a Stinger - the head aerial and canopy gave it away
Like that machine gun detail under the arm - excellent!

I really like this Version; it look much more like a Mech and less than a trasformed fighter.
Nice touch the panel work on the chest allows to paint something akin to the classical black V-schape of the unseen.

Gorgeous. I've seen the reseen version and wasn't overly impressed with it nor it's model. I liked elements of the unseen (but understand why it isn't around anymore). But this? I want a model of this version please! It's exactly how I think it should look!

I really like the blockier legs (when compared to the Wasp at least), the cockpit design is really nice as well. I was wondering how'd you implement it and i'm glad you went with the iconic mailbox head it always had.

It reminds me of a VF-1D...the one with the single slab monoeye instead of the prism.
Kinda neat. Didn't expect that in BT.

BT used to have a bunch of veritech based mechs.

As well as the Destroids, and others!
if I remember correctly, Shoji didn't particularly care if they used them, but Harmony Gold got a hold of the copyrights to the designs in the US and basically copyrighted the BT versions out of existence.

Are Valkyries Land-Air Mechs (LAM) in use anymore in the modern tabletop game?Β I know they're pathetically inefficient because their conversion mechanisms eat up pretty much all of the space and tonnage, leaving little space for actual weapons, but this picture reminded me of them.
π: 0 β©: 1
Shimmering-Sword In reply to EVAUnit4A [2017-11-26 21:55:51 +0000 UTC]
Essentially not. Lore wise they're extremely rare, and most players don't know how to play them nor want to allow them on the table.
And that last reason is because when used to their maximum ability, they can be very good, in a not fun way.

In 3D yes. I have all the skills required, and know how printing/casting works. I simply avoid it most of the time as I'm not as time efficient at it. At that point though, we had 3 sculptors working side by side to finish things off quickly.

Ever thought about opening up a shop at www.shapeways.com/ ?Β I remember you stated that money and time are an issue.Β So why not make some 3d models of something and see if they can sell?Β Help you improve one of your marketable skills and hopefully bring in some money.

Shimmering-Sword In reply to spacewolflord [2017-11-27 21:52:04 +0000 UTC]
Just like online print shops, shapeways is a case where a buyer pays way too much money for a product, and the company pockets most of the profits while the seller gains very little. It's not worth it for me or the buyer, and the quality isn't up to what I'd prefer (no print lines at all).
I'll stick to resin/metal casting through proper miniatures companies when I want to sell minis, where everyone involved leaves happy.

I have seem some good models come out of Shapeway.Β They were at the high setting so it was not cheap but I would buy them my self if I had the desired.Β There are people that have the money to burn so why not give them the option to it burn on your fire of creations?Β I can see your point even if I don't completely get it.Β You know what you are doing and what you can do so what you do must be right for you.

Shimmering-Sword In reply to spacewolflord [2017-12-02 01:35:30 +0000 UTC]
The main point is even if people with a lot of money buy them, I wont make any money, it's not profitable for me at all.

I didn't think the artist payout was that bad.Β There goes any idea of using that for a small miniature business.
