Description Time for a big ol dump of official Battletech lineart!
This "classic" (or "newseen" as the fans call it) set of mechs is intended to refresh the art for some early era mechs.
My goal was to be as faithful as possible to the originals to deliver something recognizable and iconic, yet still come up with something original.

The locust was a fun one, and one of the first few I tackled. Some may remember this old speedpaint that I used as a starting point.

The most common battlemech in the entire Inner Sphere.

How setup for guns it have? I asked because looks like some cannons on it rather than machine gun. But as I know it have only 20 ton and just can't have cannons because wight limits... Just asked.

Large calibers, but not as big or as long barreled as you'd want for an AC2. Also large armored sleeves on the guns.
Battletech rules are abstractions of reality, so you could have large caliber but slower firing machineguns or similar to a modern autocannon to meet the "rules" for a battletech mg.

I should say quality and quantity balance instead of sheer quantity.Β  Just one piece or a few is the problem on a teacher's budget.

Yeah I can totally understand, I've grown way too expensive for pretty much all of my old clients.
As for where to buy books, CGL seems to be running a store on Amazon these days, though I haven't kept track of where and what exactly is in each book of my designs.

I'm extremely out of the loop.Β  My last site update was like Monday, but before that it was 4 years ago.Β  The good news is being distracted with fatherhood is not too bad. Β  I think you might have seen my other comment but you said that submission had to be deleted and then resubmitted.Β  I haven't seen the rulebooks for sale that have your art except way back when you did the Awesome and those first pieces for Catalyst.Β  I used to always get stuff through BattleCorps.Β  Any good ideas on where to get stuff with your art now?Β  I still want to do another piece with you sometime, but as you know my budget only allows for so much and so I will probably work with some other people first for the sheer quantity.Β  It would be great to do one more piece with a Vulcan or some other new significant characters' Mech.Β  ShinyPants and I are planning to do a new huge pic for the site's backdrop based on 3025 tech and my character Llana who will be one of the pilots in the new BattleTech Kickstarter game.

Way better than the original concept - least there is a place of the pilot to sit!

This bastard is a pain in MWO. So fast you can't shoot the legs, gotta aim right at the torso. Have to use lasers or streaks too, makes misses less costly. Also, great work

StealingPica In reply to Stargazzer811 [2017-11-18 22:39:32 +0000 UTC]

A pain in the ass in the new Battletech game, too... too many Evasion stacks and too fast for its own good. But always only one solid AC/10 salvo away from doom.

Stargazzer811 In reply to StealingPica [2017-11-18 23:29:06 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, always is, unlike in MWO when it takes 3-4 AC10 shells

Shimmering-Sword In reply to Stargazzer811 [2017-11-18 14:53:58 +0000 UTC]

Yep, and I'm glad PGI has found ways to make most mechs usable, instead of massive gunboats ruling the day at all times.

One of my favourite lights. Low profile, stupidly fast, good crowd control and decent mid-range firepower

Shimmering-Sword In reply to Zax19taken [2017-11-18 01:52:46 +0000 UTC]

Haha, "decent firepower". Maybe on some later models.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Zax19taken In reply to Shimmering-Sword [2017-11-18 10:44:32 +0000 UTC]

That's the problem with escalation! You always have to compare it to contemporary models. I like the pre-Helm stuff and due to my Gray Death bias I like the Locust over the the Wasp and the Stinger. Later Locust models would have to compete with models that escalated as well.

I don't know the later meta, when a mech type had a model available that was better than the competition. In gerenal I like melee capable mechs with proper hands (otherwise the humanoid shape is a waste) or squat mech like the Marauder, so the Locust is a mech I'd pick as a newbie warrior . And while I'm not into missile boats, some Archer models tick a lot of boxes for me

I wouldnΒ΄t want to ride one into combat, but it rules as a scout!
ThatΒ΄s what it was created for, after all.
And when an enemy Atlas has his back turned towards you, why not dare some shots?

I personally think the OG Locust not having hips was a weird, bad idea. It might be the only 'Mech to lack something so essential and ubiquitous.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Shimmering-Sword In reply to GarageMasters [2017-11-18 01:01:23 +0000 UTC]

There were quite a lot of early designs lacking hips. New ones rarely do, if at all, as we're pretty into logical design these days
I can easily think of the Nova, Falconner, and Linebacker as other examples, but there are more.

You know... when I see lightly armed mechs, tanks and AS fighters in Battletech, I just want to figure out how to mount a RAC/5 onto them so they've got a massive increase in potential damage to mess with people.
