Description
Time for a big ol dump of official Battletech lineart! This "classic" (or "newseen" as the fans call it) set of mechs is intended to refresh the art for some early era mechs.
My goal was to be as faithful as possible to the originals to deliver something recognizable and iconic, yet still come up with something original.
The locust was a fun one, and one of the first few I tackled. Some may remember this old speedpaint that I used as a starting point.

Or, if there's not enough tonnage to support a RAC/5, then the heaviest weapon that can be supported by the tonnage. Give those speedy buggers some teeth and make your foes panic!

Ohhhhhhhhhh, so that's where TheB33f found
Β for the thumbnail of one of his videos.Β I was wondering what mech that was.
In MechWarrior Online, I was inspired by original lineart of the Locust to make an off-kilter build of it, focusing on the big chin-mounted gun.Β Instead of a Small or Medium Laser, I placed an ER Large Laser on it, and added a SRM-2 to either arm (with only a half-ton of ammo split between them).Β Unfortunately, this meant this sniping Locust had to sacrifice both any armor upgrade and engine size- and thus essential-to-survival movement speed- to make the ERLL work.

I called it "Mosquito".

I did that once with a Commando.
Nearly stripped everything for a PPC and actually made the enemy team dedicate three of theirs to hunt me.
That was fun until they cornered me...
There's just not enough room on a 25t chassis for a PPC, heatsinks, properly sized reactor, armor and two SRM-4s...

Well, since I'm a really bad shot with any range of PPC or Gauss (unless it's, like, point-blank range), I have to depend on ER Large to do my sniping.
I just gravitate towards having armor rather than speed as my comfort blanket.Β Ideally, I'd like to run an Urbanmech with one big cannon backed up by a bunch of lasers, just to keep things simple.
Unfortunately all the metas say mass pulse lasers or machine guns and that just feels wrong, like cheating.Β I want to be small enough to not be noticed, but strong enough I can do my part on the team without playing easy mode "haha you can't catch me cause I'm too fast and my hitboxes are too small and I have a hundred light machine guns with ULTIMATE CRITICAL POWAAA and my quirk bonuses are very disproportionately higher than your's" bullshit [which PGI either doesn't notice or acknowledge].
I purchased a Mist Lynx G a few months ago, and despite the very-meta eight LMGs on it and loads of advice on piloting Lights, I just felt dirty using it, so I sold it.Β Now I have a Medium Viper with a bit more armor and the same level of speed as most stock IS Lights, and I don't feel bad about using it.

He, machine guns...
When the Warhammer came out -frankly my MOST favored Mech ever- I gave it a spin.
In the classic version with dual PPCs, dual Lasers, a SRM-6 and the two machine guns.
That was some pretty hard match we were shoved into and in the end my "teammates" were cursing me for not going on distance and getting up close and personal to the last standing enemy.
Thing was: My weapons were shot. All except the machine guns. And I still don't know how, I managed to outmaneuvre a Hellbringer while seven of my team were cursing and making me consider to ask PGI about a filter for their chat.
I won.
By literally four shots of ammo. No PPCs since both arms were blown off. No SRMs thanks to a light mech ripping open my rear armor and cooking off the last three salvos, no lasers thanks to enemy hits and that ammo explosion.
And four simple shots of machine gun ammo were all that was left in a Mech whose armor diagram was flashing reds all over the board.
Fun times!

An interesting logistic point:Β unless a mech is known for moving over 100kph (i.e. never do this with a light mech!), rarely do you see medium, heavy, or assault mechs get legged.Β So, if I have the space, I regularly put as much ammo in the legs as possible.Β You don't even need to max out the armor on the legs to protect it!
(Also, I don't hessitate to put ammo in the head or CT 'cause those are usually the last places to get destroyed, and chances are at that point I don't have any weapons to actually use that ammo.)

I'd be the type to run it without the SRMs to get more speed. Thing is near impossible to hit if you stay at ERLL ranges.

(ironic snort) Damn thing is impossible to hit regardless of which range it's at!Β
(...Except- of course!- when I pilot one, and I just walk right into everything and can't be nimble no matter how hard I try.Β It seems that Light mechs are OP only when I'm not in them... and that's, like, totally unfair.Β )

I wouldn't say the Beginners Box is a very good value unless you absolutely must have the griffin mini asap, or if they change the contents. I'd say wait for them to release the Griffin in a lance pack or through IWM.
The Starter Box, while not as good as the old pile of minis in a box, is pretty good for the quality it should deliver though, that's definitely worth a few purchases

Well Iβm a demo agent so having a couple extra starter sets help when Iβm running events at our
Local game stores if people want to try the game out.

That's true, I bet it will be nice to have some better sculpts to put on the table to attract new players.
