Noticing a trend lately? I've had a lot of Battletech fan commissions come in over the last few months.This piece was done for No Guts No Galaxy and should be available as a shirt in their store soon: nogutsnogalaxy.myshopify.com/Β (notice my Marauder and Warhammer are up there)
As for the art, I was assigned to redesign the Shadowcat. If I've ever drawn one of these before it was way back when Mechwarrior 4 was fresh. Luckily this is one of those designs that was done quite well from the beginning, so it didn't require many changes, just some polishing up with modern looks.

Very nice redesign of the Shadowcat. Most of the other redesigns I have seen pale compared to this, just the simplicity of the drawing alone is awesome.

Very nice, as per usual! I do particularly like the cockpit, specifically the departure from that horrible Y-split design the older depictions had IIRC.

Yep, had to drop the funky glass. Unless a cockpit is big enough to offset the seat (like an atlas) having a support bar down the middle blocks too much.

I honestly think this has a chance of unseating the TW as the king of clan mechs.

You think to highly of the TW, it is a good all around mech, but it does have a few weaknesses that people like to just blow over and ignore.

it's a bit slugish and a large target, but you'd expect that from an assault mech. it's weapons are mostly not mounted very high which can be somewhat tricky at times, but the arm mounts allow for popping shots around corners, and the torso mounts usually are not destroyed.

Every time I pilot a Twolf, and I am a Clan Wolf pilot by heart ever sense 1995,Β I end up losing a side torso .. or my nose gets so bloody that all someone has to do is look at me and my mech explodes.
It is a good mech, but it has terrible hit boxes and like you said, low weapon mounts... then again.. MOST MWO mechs do.. *Shrugs*

it's disadvantages are exactly the kind you'd expect most similar mechs to have, but it generally makes up for them with overwhelming strengths, namely firepower and armor. part of the reason why it gets hit so much is because many players recognize it as a serious threat and prioritize targeting it. the atlas was undeniably the dominant IS assault for quite a long while, and during it's reign, it was often a priority target for the enemy team. even to this day, the atlas is a bit of a lead magnet. overall, the TW is a powerful player on the battlefield, capable of single handedly taking out any single opponent in a brawling match with a very high success rate. there is no best mech for all situations, the TW is no exception, however it's very good at what it's meant to do, and what it's meant to do is be the centerpiece of a concentrated, coordinated attack on the enemy team. it's the tank fighting alongside infantry, the dreadnought fighting alongside frigates, destroyers and cruisers.

The ThunderBolt will dissagree with you on being able to take out "any opponent" I won't get into a balance talk here on DA, but clan weapons are way to hot to bring long range to a fight, if you are gonna brawl, you needa bring small lasers and chip at them.Β Β Β
Most of your points are completely valid and I agree with, Me I just shoot at Atlas still because they are my favorite mech to hunt, have been sense closed beta.

well, i will say that many clan mechs do run kinda hot. this is partially because of their high energy loadout, and also partially because of their intended playstyle. and at the proper range, and circumstances, not much can match it. however, i think i know what you were kinda saying... the right mech in the right position and range may well get the jump on the wolf, but this would be the same for any mech really. a LRM boat may dominate a timber wolf at long range, but it's also very vulnerable to being ambushed.

I think it compares well to it's IS counterpart, the blackjack. Just as usual being clan tech it will do the same job at a higher speed with more guns. Its limited armor means no matter how good it can shoot it'll still be fragile though.

True, My MadDog is terribly fragile, but I seem to get enough kills and damage in it, even if I DO carry some Lrms, to warrant bringing 2 into a CW fight.Β It's like the Nova, All about avoiding attention and giving some of your own at the right times
