Description A commission for ~GoldenBlackDragon
I was asked to design a powered armor suit for a female character using a mix of my own style and the iron man aesthetic. Had fun with this one.

I'm seeing the Iron Man influences, but it's not so prevalent that any facet is outright stolen. Great job!

I love this - at least the backside area looks perfect and not decended into sexist "cyber buttocks" or worse, "rubber bottoms" as in Batman and Robin's costumes!!!!!!!

This is a damn handsome suit and the best thing is that to me it does NOT come across as that female - more like practical, if that makes sense.

Been looking for a powersuit concept myself - this is the business! Cheers!

It's not too hard with this type of compact armor to be clear what gender is wearing it without adding cues to the armor itself. Aside from the breast shape it's all in the hips and waist.

Indeed - just nice to see someone concentrate on the practicallity of such a system instead of the sex.

Excellent stuff as always sir

lol, from animals, with claws, on feet
Real life has plenty of nice reference, I don't look to other games/artists much for inspiration.

You weren't perchance thinking of female turian faces when applying that helmet pattern, were you?

Very nicely done, without the usual overused female armor tropes. Love the clawed feet in particular!

No thought at all
At the top you have implied hair line, and the bottom has teeth, and that's about it.

Very cool, I love how you avoided the "boob-shot-trap" issue with female cleavage and armor.

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

Shimmering-Sword In reply to Okneer [2013-04-19 11:17:34 +0000 UTC]

Haha yep. The chest is an important area to armor and a great spot to house internals when most of your suit is articulated. It's too valuable of a location to lose to "armor cleavage".

SinisterGehe In reply to Okneer [2013-04-19 09:35:53 +0000 UTC]

Well if you look at the military gear women use in modern military it is quite easy avoid. Just make the chest piece standard flat and allow the space to come from sides. The modern realistic armor design is so good that you cant really tell the difference between man and woman. Expect when it comes to helmets because they are always standard issue (except in navy).

But I agree with you, too many artist fall in to that trap, not everything has to be "anatomically" correct on exterior. Specially on military gear that is designed with function, durability and safety in mind. - Something that artist around the world keep forgetting.

SinisterGehe [2013-04-19 08:13:27 +0000 UTC]

I love your exoskeletal armor style. They all look sleek and nice, but still strong and powerful.

I wish I could pay you for a commission but I am kinda broke atm because of my expensive tour in america with my orchestra.

But if you have time and want something to do here is an idea. I would love to see you make a suit that is light and agile (for male). Something for a special-op or such. Kinda the way you designed the scout or DarksideniYokoso picture.

Also I'd like to do one of your designs in to a 3D model and then do Cycles or Lux rendering of them. ButI'd like to know what of your designs are original and what am I allowed to do and if I am allowed to use it in my private portfolio. I can do one that you'd like.
I'd love to do one of these for you, I love your works so much.

Pretty much all my Elemental/Ranger stuff is open game for practice modeling. A lot ask to do this, none complete it

SinisterGehe In reply to Shimmering-Sword [2013-04-19 12:24:06 +0000 UTC]

Is that a challenge?
I work as 3D designer. And worked in a game development studio for a while as a environment designer and artist. Character modelling is more of a - Hmh... side-project. I am trying to expand my portfolio and skill base a bit more so I am more of a useful resource to hire - if you get what I mean.

I'll start working on it... Soon as my current "firebird" is finished.
Drop a follow if you care to see the progress. But I am sure to credit and inform you when I am done on it or set certain goals. I also might ask you about some minor details, since I am trying to do YOUR design not my interpretation of it.

Also if it was a challenge Ill take you on it. How about if we bet 2 toes of mech-walker and on bolt from the tracks of a mammoth tank... lol

Shimmering-Sword In reply to SinisterGehe [2013-04-19 13:33:36 +0000 UTC]

Haha, I wouldn't quite call it a challenge. I'd very much enjoy to see some of my work in 3D form though. It's just that I get a few offers like this a year, but few make it very far. The best one guy did was model and texture most of a soldier, but was never quite done. He was working at big game studios though, so I can't blame him for being busy.

Not overly sexualised at all and, while simplistic, is effectively threatening. Nice work.
