This ship is a Heavy Assault Cruiser of the Protectorate navy.
Operating as a local flagship for naval fleet operations, it has formidable combat capabilities as well as considerable troop capacity. This makes it technically capable of a planetary invasion all on its own, but such a valuable ship is typically escorted by combat ships and additional troop carriers.
The long prow of the ship allows for large main guns that may out range even main line battleships. Meanwhile abundant secondary turrets and point defenses make closing distance with the ship a dangerous proposition.

Great work sir! The ship seems to balance realism and the "rule of cool." I applaud anyone who can do that effectively.
I'll also be careful not to get on the wrong side of that main gun, as I know what a capital Gauss Rifle can do to a craft.

Basic idea in my setting is almost any combat ship has a gun big enough to damage any other ship, often critically, so everyone stays at a range where making a hit is hard but not impossible. From there it's about who can fire an unavoidable salvo, or get lucky first.

Ok, thats cool! Makes me wonder though, how effective are fighters/bombers, guided missiles/torpedoes, and other guided weapons? They'd be able to attack at a closer range, but I guess they'd be vulnerable to point defense weapons. I think it would be risky but interesting to have a smaller, faster ship with some sort of electronic warfare system to throw off enemy targeting systems, big enough to carry a main gun but small enough to be able to maneuver effectively.Β

Once you get down to fighter craft size, where they can maneuver enough to effectively dodge main and secondary guns, they start becoming too small the carry guns that effectively penetrate battleship armor. These ships also have tertiary turrets and ciws systems that can fire back along with missiles.
Missiles/torpedoes are used, but are only effective in large salvo's, as again there are ciws systems everywhere, and fleet ships all link targeting to more effectively screen. Large hardened torpedoes can even be targeted by those tertiary or even secondary guns.
Once you get down to scout fleet battles or even one on one ship situations, then there's a lot more room for different tactics.
The ultimate anti ship weapon is firing a high velocity guided shell from the main guns. They're harder to shoot down with the defensive screens, but can manage some course changes to account for evasive ship movements.
