DescriptionOnce again protesting that you can't use ! in descriptions. I noticed a couple other images like this that describe the history of a Fursona. I remember everyone "omg you're changing shin again" so I decided it'd be cool to see a timeline of his changes. I didn't include concept sketches, I really just wanted to include the OFFICIAL reference sheet updates for him.Related content

Of all the dragon and dragon-like creatures I've seen on dA, Shinerai has to be [to me, at least] the most stunning. I absolutely love this final edition of him; the colors are bright and eye-catching without being garish, and his markings look perfectly natural while still being interesting. All your work and conceptualizing has definitely paid off!

Well, the white eyespot doesn't really look that nice and doesn't go with any of his other pattern. I will probably add some simple stripes back, like they were in the old version.

You're right, they aren't c: If I can find a way to make them look a little nicer, then I might keep them cx But it's a toss up between them and the stripes.

I think Shin is the most beautiful and original fursona I've ever seen, really and it's interesting to see how he's grown to the one he is now :3♥

Shinerai is such a brilliant character, and these evolution charts always inspire me to just... spill out what ideas I have right now. I'm a bit too hesitant with making my character, mostly because I'm too excited to know how my future self will improve it... but this has helped me get over that art block. Thank you so much for sharing this!

Wow I love the explanation of how he was created gives you an idea how much went into making Shin.Also love how you minimalzied is that word?the detail but still had detail (do you know what I mean I'm horrible with words)My teacher told me you can make detail out of something not so detailed,really love 09's design,wish I had my old fursona's to see how far I came.

Shin is not actually elemental, he would only appear to be, from mimicking shape.

But you're totally right, his very first design is kinda way different! And I totally kicked myself in the rear by drawing his other "wing" behind his head because it made everyone think it was a crest of feathers on his head xD

I really like that you've posted a developmental timeline of this. It's very interesting to see it all happen in one piece. The differences are neat and it's great to see the progress of him. I know I was amazed by the super fluffeh shin when he came about but I really am liking his current design. I think this just seems right. Before yes, he was amazing and beautiful and FLUFFEH...but for some reason it still seemed off to me and he's not even my character! lol, I am really happy to see this and kicking myself from having not commented on it back when it was posted ( college got the better of me so I wasn't online much) but long story short, this is a really interesting thing to see and just goes to show how much work all of us put into some of out most beloved characters and fursonas. ( My Luci has changed far more times than I care to count, I should do something like this for her sometime xD )

Quite a change! I applaud such changes, characters need um! x) Makes people get whiplash trying to figure out what is what. I for one am very impressed at how much he has changed, looking at the first one (which really isn't that bad! You shoulda seen my first drawings oh god...) and to the last there has been an improvement in style, concept, color and all those wonderful things people learn in art class that I never pay attention to because All I want to do is draaaaaaaand now I am ranting...

Usually something along the lines of, "Decent. Almost as nice as Shin's." or, "Well, it's all right. But Shin's are better."
And while I've no idea if you developed that style, I can't help wondering if they got the format from looking at yours.

haha! well i've had a few people ask me if they could use my style of reference sheet, but i really don't even know if it's a style xD i always say yes, go right on ahead and use the exact layout! who can copyright a layout anyway
