Oh damn, oh shit
Its tutorial time 8D Cuz I have nothing else on my plate, obviously (I'm lying). Anyways I was feeling like not working on comics so I did this. As always, feel free to trace or whatever you need to do. Sorry if it is less in depth, this is more about the shapes and how to arrange them on the face vs an exhaustive listing of a bunch of details. Hopefully this will give you a place to begin so you can make your own variety, instead of having to rely on others and reffing (if you even need the help).
I'd like to add, this is exactly how I draw faces. If you like that and want to emulate it for some godawful reason, go ahead, I guess (though I strongly advise you to develop your own style). But hopefully the principles are basic enough to be applied to any style you like.

So useful! I'm in anatomy right now, but it's one thing to look at a skull for an hour (quite literally) and another to turn the skull into an actual drawing of a face. Very nice tutorial!

wow nice idea on the circle and line techique! I'll try it out! Especially the fact that I CANNOT draw noses, ever!
I just kept hoping that I would see a noseless person someday so that I wouldn't have to sketch noses, till I saw this tutorial! :3

Nicely worded and drawn. I was linked to this tutorial as advice on my cartoon-characters and this tutorial was effective.

Agh, everything I post is double posted! Sorry. :/
On another note, I took "ugly anime shovels" directly to heart and spent two days freaking out because I couldn't draw a face that wasn't shaped like a shovel in some way...and then I realized...nobody can.
:/
Still, amazingly helpful. This tut kick-started some of my best drawings. A thousand thanks!

i usually draw anime-ish stuff... if its even recognizable as anime 0_o
but i fricken love your tutorials. LUFF THEM!! *hugs tutorials* they're so beautiful... and i have a question. do you think you could do like a human figure tutorial? like in your tutorials, the blue lines. or the lines that arent black >_<

Possibly! I don't know if I feel okay about that though since there are so many body types and proportions can differ so heavily... but I do have a hair tut coming up hopefully soon

And, worst of all, maybe they are just not what you'd imagined in your head. At that point, you should give up art FOREVER.
OHMAIBUDDHA, THANKS!! 8D THIS ADVICE IS THE BEST ONE I COULD EVER RECEIVE FROM SOMEONE.

I have to thank you for calling my anime shovel faces shitty. I think hearing it that way will finally get this through my head and make me expand on face shapes... yes, anime might be eaiser, but it won't get me much anywhere in realistic drawing.
I am really enjoying your tutorials, and can't wait to put some of these tricks to use! (never saw the nose explained like that before... i like it)
my anime's aren't shitty, just my drawings xD

XD I am rather biased against anime, so I know I sound pretty vitriolic. There is definitely good anime-styled art out there, I just think its a horrible place to start learning how to draw.

I love your style, and I love being the type of person who can easily switch between styles. While I myself want to be a Mangaka, I know what you mean about some anime. If I don't like the art in a manga/anime/ANYTHINGS, I'm like, 'Lol, no.' xD
Things like FMA, Naruto, Cowboy Bebop don't do the copy/paste face thing though. I look up to Arakawa. <3 I suppose the newer anime has really made most of them look bad and has put the horrible stereotype on all of them. =C Makes me sad.
I loved reading your tutorial though, and it's very helpful. <3 Your style reminds me of Avatar: The Last Airbender for some reason. oxo
