Why are they fighting? They're doing it to put a past incident behind them--settling a score, so to speak. It's a long story, but basically, it was over what had happened some time before X7 when they were still strangers, but enemies under different factions.

Spoiler: They fought to a standstill until Solid surrendered because if she continued, the energy inside her would've corroded her insides because of fighting too hard.
